Now how’s that for a post title? I’m pretty sure this another one of those stories that just wouldn’t happen to you city-dwelling ladies…
Saturday I was backing out of my driveway and I stopped because there was a car creeping super slowly up the road, but it was too close for me to pull out. Then the car stops and blocks me in. As I’m scowling out the back window I see the very old (typically I use the term elderly, but this guy was old) man waving me over to his car window. First, he asks me if he should just leave money at the stand selling corn at the house catty corner from my house. Every year my neighbor sells corn at a stand in his front yard. He doesn’t sit outside with it, there’s a sign posted telling you to leave money in the can. (No, I’m not making this up…) Anyhow, my response to the man was, “Yes, that’s what the sign says.” His response was, “Oh, I thought maybe I should give it to you.” As not to be rude, I kept my sarcastic response in my head, but I politely told him no, he could just leave his money at the stand. I start to get back in my jeep, but he’s still just sitting there in his car staring at me. I get back out and he says, “Hey, come here. I’ve got a 5 pound bag of red potatoes here in my car if you want ’em.” Ummmm…what??? Is that the grown up girl equivalent to “Want some candy little girl?” I literally busted out laughing and he proceeds to tell me, “They’ll add five years to your life…c’mon you know you want ’em.” No thank you very much. I can’t be sure, but I ‘d have to say that taking up offers for random veggies from strange old guys driving around my block is not going to add five years to my life.
I’ve been keeping an eye out for a cargo vest since last year. I have two cargo coats, one lightweight and a lined one for winter, and I wear them both a lot so I knew a cargo vest would get just as much bang for the buck. It was one of those things that you would think would be easy to find (kind of like a slip), but I hadn’t come across one that I liked. Until this vest popped up on the Target website. It was a bit stiff when it arrived so I washed and dried it and it came out soft and perfect. I can predict right now that this cargo vest is going to end up being one of the workhorses of my wardrobe as it’s the perfect layering piece for Fall and Winter. It can be dressed up or down and I’ve got about a zillion ideas on different ways to style it. The tank, which has become one of my favorites, is from the Human Rights Campaign. The HRC is one of America’s largest civil rights organizations working to achieve lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality. 100% of the net proceeds from merchandise sold on their site goes towards supporting their work to improve the lives of LGBT Americans by advocating for equal rights and benefits in the workplace, ensuring families are treated equally under the law and increasing public support among all Americans through innovative advocacy, education and outreach programs. Since gay rights is a cause near and dear to my heart, purchasing this tank was a win/win for me.

That’s an odd story. I suspect you have many like that. You seem to have a magnetic force that attracts oddballs (which explains why I’m here).

That’s a great cargo vest. I’m on the look out for a khaki green jacket for the Autumn so I can totally see how you’re going to get great wear out of it. And how weird of that guy to offer you those potatoes!
