A funny thing happened while I was waiting around for winter to show up…
THE STORY
…spring came back. Can anyone explain how that happened? I mean geez; it seems like it was hot, then it cooled off for what felt like a week and I got to wear a few sweaters and some boots, and now the forecast for the next ten days ranges between the mid-50’s and 70 degrees. Whhaattt?? 70 degrees?! I mean seriously, it was like a week ago I had to dig a snow pit in my yard to take outfit photos in. This sudden attack of spring forced me to bust out the Jergen’s Natural Glow self tanning lotion last night and start greasin’ myself up. Good lord, I’m going to have to get a pedi too. How did I get caught so unprepared for spring? It’s kind of like when unexpected company shows up and you haven’t cleaned your house for two weeks. I’m still sitting around here waiting to wear my fleece leggings and leg warmers and now I need to dig my shorts out of storage? WTH? Actually though, this ‘tween weather is my favorite. I’m not a fan of extremes when it comes to temperature. If it’s too cold I feel like the Michelin man trying to lumber around buried under ten pounds of layers, and if it’s too hot my clothes are stuck to me like a contestant in the world’s nastiest wet t-shirt contest. If the temperature is at that in between sweet spot I can wear shorts and skirts with bare legs and a cute lightweight jacket and not worry about frostbite or my makeup melting down to my belly button.
THE OUTFIT
Just keepin’ it simple today with a gray henley and distressed black skinnies. The cool thing about this particular gray henley though is the back. Which you will have to wait to see on a day when it’s a hair warmer than it was today. It has these cool criss-cross straps that make it more special than your run of the mill henley. For now, you can check it out here to see the back details. To take it from too basic to something special, I added the magical “defying the laws of physics” lace vest and leopard clutch.
THE TIP
If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times, add one special piece to a basic outfit and you’ve got a standout look. In this case, I went with two; the vest and the clutch. If I’d worn the henley and jeans with Converse and no top layer, it would’ve been a way more casual laid back look. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, just not what I was going for here.

I’m delighted the warmer weather is back. This winter was really good for us. I think I only shovelled three times this year. What a delight and change from the past 3 years.
bisous

You are so right Debbie, Winter sped by and blooms are all over. Welcome spring. It’s been raining in SF. I believe we get a break tomorrow and it’s pouring the rest of the week. I’m not complaining cos I love rain and look forward to it. I totally agree about adding a piece to create a standout look. You look fabulous. Great bag!

Thanks so much Rachel!
OMG Debbie, the very same thing is happening right here in Houston. The bipolar weather we’re experiencing here has caused me to think that we went from Winter to Summer, and completely bypassing Spring. A scant week ago, we need to layer and bundle up because the warmest temperature was 13 Celsius. And this weekend, we’ll hit 31 Celsius. This is where I write, “insert loud, long wail of horror”. I’m having to trim down the remainder of my warmer clothing posts hahahaha it’s ridiculous. Ah well. By the by, you look cool here, so hipster. Is that a word that’s still used these days? I don’t know but I think it applies most appropriately here
and is that THE clutch I adore?? xoxo
Honestly, the weather does kind of freak me out. Don’t get me wrong, I love that it’s getting warmer, but we never had much of a winter and in Pennsylvania that just ain’t right. Even if hipster isn’t a cool word anymore, I say we bring it back…lol!
We seem to be verging on the edge of spring this side of the pond, so are only a little way behind you. I’m down to wearing a jacket for the past couple of photo shoots so that’s a pretty good indicator. This is a great casual look made all the better for the twist of adding that clutch (again). I think you may have to start a fan club for this clutch on it’s own - oh how we LOVE it x
