Print Tunic Dress & OTK Boots: Stealth Pounds

11.16.2015

One of my primary focuses when it comes to fashion is comfort…

THE STORY

…and tunic dresses most definitely fit the bill; as do joggers and harem pants. The problem with that? You’re so comfortable that you don’t necessarily notice a few spare pounds creeping up on you like an ax wielding maniac in a slasher movie. I rarely weigh myself, I’m more a ‘how my clothes are not fitting” kind of girl. The other day I wore a pair of my GAP broken in khakis and the fit was more, uh, shall we say streamlined than slouchy. Ya, that was a clue right there.

THE PROBLEM WITH TUNIC DRESSES, JOGGERS AND HAREM PANTS IS THAT YOU DON’T ALWAYS NOTICE A FEW SPARE POUNDS CREEPING UP ON YOU.

No, I’m not one of those women who are actually tiny, but whine about their weight looking for sympathy or compliments. I’m merely stating a fact; no sympathy or compliments needed. I’m well aware that in the big picture, I am not overweight. I am tiny and wear an embarrassingly small size in clothing, but I am currently carrying around a few extra stealth pounds that I’m simply not comfortable with. It’s not middle age spread, it’s more “one cookie too many” spread.

THE OUTFIT

I’ve been eyeballing this gorgeous mustard print tunic dress from Shein for quite awhile. I finally decided to give it a shot and I’m so glad I did. The color works so well with my hair and skin tone, and it has that soft floatiness that works so well when you’ve indulged in one cookie too many. The funny thing about yellow is that most shades look awful on me, but mustard just seems to work. It’s one of those colors I just sort of intuitively gravitate towards. As always, on a taller girl, it would be more of a tunic, but I can pull it off as a dress although as per usual, I added a lace extender underneath. I wanted to style it with ankle booties, but the day I wore it there was a definite nip in the air so I chose the over the knee boots instead.

THE MUSTARD YELLOW OF THIS PRINT TUNIC DRESS JUST WORKS WITH MY HAIR AND SKIN TONE. IT’S ONE OF THOSE COLORS I’M INTUITIVELY DRAWN TO.

I could have added tights making the ankle boots an option, but I’m holding off on tights until the last possible moment. While I love the texture and color that tights can add to an outfit, I’m certain that they were once used as some sort of medieval torture device.

THE TIP

Even if you’re unsure of your skin tone (I know I am) you can oftentimes intuitively tell what colors you look fabulous in. What colors are you drawn to? What colors predominantly make up your wardrobe and what colors do you feel beautiful in? That’s what really matters…what makes you feel the most beautiful?

Thank you Patti! If you don’t feel fabulous in what you’re wearing, it doesn’t matter what color it is. :)

It’s amazing what we can learn from the Internet. I’m shocked at your description of yourself as tiny. I believed, from your pictures and prose, that you were a large person. Like six-feet tall and strong. You come across as so formidable that I assumed your physical size matched that. These colors look good on you.

Yep, I’m all of 5’1 1/2″ tall…that 1/2 is critical…lol! I guess the big personality makes up for the tiny size! :)

I’m the same way, I’ve never had a scale but know when my jeans are getting tight, it’s time to lay off the sweets and snacks. The colors and print of that tunic are gorgeous! Perfect styling with those OTK boots!

I love this! I am so glad that mustard is a trendy color this season because it is the only yellow that I can wear, too. I love the cheerfulness of yellow, but the color usually washes me out. Not so with the mustard! And he print on your tunic is lovely! This whole looks is fabulous!
