A while back my love and I went out for a motorcycle ride. When we do we typically just wander aimlessly down back roads, cruisin’ around checking out the local color. That’s when I discovered what is apparently all the rage in outdoor activities for poultry…
Chicken camping. Yes, chicken camping. At least that’s what it looked liked to me. Somewhere in the backwoods of Ohio (I’m often not 100% sure where we are when we ride aimlessly) I spot this tent-like structure in a front yard. I’m thinking, “How cute…it’s a little tent and their kids must have slept out last night.” Uh, no. There were chickens in it. How do I know? Well, it also had the cutest little screened in front porch where you could see chickens going about their very important chicken business. And then I saw another one further up the road; then another. It became a game for us to spot the chicken tents. The funny thing is, these people had them in their front yards like some sort of living lawn ornamentation.
I was telling my friend about this whole world of poultry fun that I was unaware of, and she proceeds to tell me that she too has seen the chicken tents. Guess where? My friends, apparently city chickens also enjoy spending the night under the stars. There’s a small city (and I use that term super loosely) about 15 minutes from me. It’s not necessarily what comes to mind when you think of a city, but it does have all of the cool stuff a major city has. You know, a street or two where a multitude of unsavory business dealings take place. Well, on one of these streets she saw several houses with chicken tents in their front yards. Two questions immediately come to mind: 1. Why are chickens hanging out on the bad side of town? and 2. What exactly was my friend doing there? Actually, a couple other questions come to mind. Can you buy chicken sleeping bags and camp chairs? How do chickens light a campfire? Do they make s’mores when they’re camping? I could go on, but really, I like you guys so I’ll stop.
But just in case you were wondering…I do realize the tents must serve some purpose so I googled it. I found a chicken forum (yes, there is such a thing) where a few people asked what they were. Their questions were all answered but only via private messages. Apparently this all very hush hush…perhaps these chickens are all working undercover in some poultry spy operation…
I found this cute floral skater skirt at Kohl’s a few months back. Since I have a soft spot for pansies I picked it up. The first time I wore it I styled it with a blazer for work. I thought about doing it up casual this time with a pair of Converse and the striped tee untucked, but these sandals haven’t gotten any love this summer so I went the slightly dressier route. I tried my favorite partial front tuck, but it just didn’t hang right with the skirt. I love a good front tuck, but if the top doesn’t lay right it looks silly so you have to go all out; either fully tucked or not tucked at all. As I said last week, stripes are truly the easiest print to mix with others, so stripes and flowers it was. Maybe a little to dressy to wear chicken camping, but it would definitely work for chicken brunch.

Chicken camping? Huh… never heard of it. But it’s always nice to escape the city, even if you’re a bird. Good post. And pretty top.

That had me in stitches with all your chicken questions! How bizarre! Anyway onto the outfit. Love how you’ve co-ordinated the colour of your nail polish with the skirt. And I’m with you on the tuck - either full or no tuck. Great sandals too.

Chicken tents, never heard of them and I live in Delaware - now I’m curious as if there are any the state, especially with Perdue being a company not to far away.

You definitely had me at “chicken camping.” After reading about your encounter, I had to do some investigating on my own. Google wasn’t helpful. I think I found the same forum that you’d found where all the comments are “Thanks for your PM. I get it now” and that was it. If I had to guess, I’d agree with you. The chickens are camping. Just hope they don’t get too close to the bonfire or they’ll be cooked!

My hubby is a biker too, but I stopped going on the back when he bought a Ducati 1098 - talk about an uncomfortable ride, ouch! He then replaced it with a BMW which is equally as uncomfy so I gave up altogether!
As always you look incredible - love these colours on you!!
