White Skater Skirt, Faux Fur Vest & Over The Knee Boots: Insta-Peeves

I started my Instagram account not quite a year ago. I honestly only started one for the blog, and I don’t have a personal account. I know I’ve said it before, and I know that’s it weird considering I have a blog, but I’m a pretty private person. Thus, I don’t feel the need to have a private Instagram. In any case Instagram has become my most favorite social media platform; I’m very visual and love looking at photos. I’ve also made some really cool friends that I wouldn’t have had the good fortune to meet through either blogging or in real life. There are however, a few things that I find rather irksome.

It’s really one peeve broken into two distinct groups. First, are the Instagrammers who follow you only because they are trying to get you to follow back. I have found that typically bloggers or Insta-bloggers who have a large number of followers will follow you and once you follow back they drop you like a prom dress. Then there are the individuals who follow you and when you don’t follow back, again they drop you. It’s all well and fine if you unfollow me because you’re not diggin’ my vibe, but just because you’re trying to boost your numbers and/or I didn’t reciprocate, c’mon, what is this, high school? I do have an app that tracks my followers and unfollowers. And yes, that in itself might be high schoolish, but the trends interest me and I like to know what’s going on with my account. And yes, I do reciprocate with juvenile behavior. Even if I truly love your account (which in most cases I do because I only follow accounts that interest me) if you unfollow a day after I followed you it’s obvious what you’re up to. Therefore, I unfollow because I find it to be incredibly rude to play games like that.

The second group are the people who follow you because they’re hawking one thing or another and want you to buy something. I understand you’re trying to grow your business, but instead of playing silly follow/unfollow games how about trying to grow it organically? Or maybe post something other than 1,000 wrap pictures trying to convince me I’ll be built like a Victoria’s Secret model if I wrap my belly up in some Saran Wrap like substance? I do actually follow a couple of babes who sell those wrap thingys because they post lots of other cool stuff. All of the silliness that transpires on Instagram, and Facebook as well, is just that, silliness. Trust me, I don’t lose sleep over it, but it is irritating and I thought I’d share.

How’s this outfit for breaking the “don’t wear white after Labor Day” rule? I went for it with this one…all I’m missing is white tights. But I’m pretty sure I would’ve felt (and looked) like a nurse circa 1973. I love these Boohoo skater skirts and this white one is one of my favorites so why should it languish away in the closet until May? The faux fur vest was simply an added layer of warmth as were the fleece leggings. And the over the knee boots? I’m pretty sure the skater skirt was just crying out for over the knee boots to go with it, so I obliged. Ya, I’m nice like that.

So cute and love your scarf! I don’t have that IG app, so I’m blissfully ignorant when I get unfollowed. Don’t know if that’s good or bad!

Yep, Boohoo ftw! And there truly is something majestic about an all-white ensemble in the winter, especially when you take pictorials in the snow. Bully for you! 😀 And yeah, I barely remember to post on Instagram and I’m not too arsed about it. I AM guilty of the “follow” game on Poshmark, though, so I have no right to be so sanctimonious. ;p

Great skirt and I love the vest. I have had my eyes on a vest in the similar color and hope to snatch one on sale as winter items go on clearance. I agree with you with Instagram, I don’t have an app but I have been known to follow a few people and they either do or don’t follow back and sometimes it bums me out because I might have had a great conversation with them/been to their blog numerous times and no follow or un-follow to boost their numbers. I am glad we are IG friends though. Looking forward to “Bloggers WHo Have Inspired Me” link up next Tuesday and would love to have you back to link up.
    Have a great weekend!

Debbie! hi ~ great ensemble and so cozy looking. The pink cosmetics look awesome on you too! I have decided since returning from my break, that I don’t care about followers. I even took my GFC off of my blog. I would like people follow me because THEY WANT TO not because they can get a Giveaway Prize or they can do …what ever. Yet, I am guilty of following on IG Giveaways to get more followers and as soon as I didn’t, I slapped myself silly and realized I was not doing that for the right reasons. Blogging is tricky and we have to uphold our standards or our philosophies or whatever we live by, in order to have a GREAT relationships in Blog-land. That is my take and I still think you are looking very warm and cozy in white — even after Labor Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years Eve/ Day, Martin Luther King Jr Day, and nearly Valentine’s Day!!! lol ♥, Renae

hi Debbie. I started my instagram a couple of months ago but if I’m honest I keep forgetting about it. I haven’t gotten into the swing of it at all. I love your faux fur vest and the winter white with the snow is so effective.

Pretty Deb. I love the all white look and the black boots. I also like the snow, but you are probably sick of it by now!
    You look lovely!

Debbie you absolutely nailed everything I don’t like about IG! Like you, I love it too but lately I’ve been intentionally MIA and one of the reasons is that. I also get a lot of spam accounts LOL. I’ve also experienced twice when somebody would write a long comment about liking my style and then ask permission to follow each other and then eventually unfollowing me. Why go to all that trouble huh?

I love your all white getup and you look like an ice queen with an edge because of the vest and knee high boots. I’ve been on the look out for knee high boots whenever I go thrifting but have not had any luck yet!

I’m getting an error posting this comment, hope it makes through!

You look like a winter white goddess! So pretty! I don’t have a private Instagram account either…only the one for my blog because I’ve very private too :)

I do love IG too. I have been guilty of entering these follow contest and then unfollow them because those are the not type of accounts I want to follow. There is a great community of IGers out there and I just try to focus on the great friends I’ve met from there. You looking so beautiful in this outfit.

Every Black and White and Red all over joke is popping into my head! :o) You are awesome!

I only have a private Instagram account, so I wasn’t aware of the follow/unfollow thing. Now the people who comment on my blog saying, “Follow me and I’ll follow you”…I have to stop myself from telling them if they want me to follow them, they need to have a blog that interests me. :o)

Ugh, if I get one more wrap account wanting to follow me on IG I’m going to pull my hair out 😉 I did sign up for one of those sites that lets you know who follows/unfollows, but I have only checked it out a couple times… it is interesting, tho! I really love this white outfit, especially with that grey fur vest (that I want for my closet!!).

  16. Monika Faulkner says

Seriously, you can never go wrong with a good black and white combination, dearest Debbie…no matter what the season!! Personally, I LOVE a white skirt or dress over black tights; it’s a great way to add a bit of edge to the sometimes slightly innocent feel of a pure white piece!! P.S. I totally hear you on the Instagram peeves!! (And I thought I was the only one who found the “follow” game a little high-schoolish!! 😉
