Peplum Moto Jacket & Pencil Skirt: Bitter Irony

01.22.2016

You’d be hard pressed to find a better time to shoot photos outside than when it’s snowing…

THE STORY

…seriously, think about it. Colors stand out so vividly against the white snow. A blah background looks sparkly and pristine covered in a blanket of snow. It’s just plain pretty. And the bokeh, I mean c’mon, nature is providing you with ready-made beautiful blurry points of light. What more could you ask for? Oh, I don’t know…how about some sort of magic snow that exists only when the temperature is at that sweet spot around 72 degrees? The bitter irony is while it might be breathtakingly beautiful, it’s also breathtakingly cold. It was so damn cold that when I got back in the car I had to count my fingers to make sure one hadn’t snapped off when they flash froze. But the good news? I’ve perfected my winter game face. No more Blue Steel because my facial expression is frozen in a “what the hell am I doing out in this ridiculous weather” look. And honestly, I prefer freezing my butt off to having my makeup melt down to my neck and my hair turn into what looks like a rabid guinea pig nesting on my head in under 4.6 seconds when it’s 90 degrees and a billion percent humidity. How about you…what’s your weather preference?

THE OUTFIT

I haven’t worn this peplum moto jacket from eShakti in quite awhile so I thought I’d take her out for a spin. It made the perfect layering piece for this time of the year. The last time it was on the blog I wore it as an outside jacket. It’s a nice lightweight wool blend that works for both situations; substantial enough for outside wear when the weather is cool, yet lightweight enough for using as a layering piece when it’s frigid outside. And I dig the peplum/moto combination. Like I said on Instagram the other day it’s like the lovechild of a Chanel jacket and a moto jacket; feminine, but bad ass all in one simple piece. Since my top half was a color riot I kept the bottom simple with a pencil skirt, tights and lace up boots all in black.

THE TIP

It’s a good idea to have pieces in your wardrobe that are multi-taskers. Jackets that work for indoor or outdoor wear, shirt dresses that double as duster/jackets, long necklaces that you can wrap as bracelets…you get the idea.

Very chic. LOVE the jacket. The pictures are wonderful — you’re right about the beauty of a snowy backdrop. Just don’t stay outdoors too long. :-)

Well, I love the beautiful winter back ground even thought I’m a California wimp! Warm weather please.

Your colorful outfit looks amazing against the snowy scenery.

Snow really does transform the backdrop doesn’t it Debbie? We very rarely get snow here, but when we do it reminds me of my childhood in Scotland, aaaaah. Anyway it makes for a very pretty backdrop. Loving the necklace paired with that top, great colours together x

Beautiful background indeed and just like you, I’d rather freeze by tush off than deal with summer heat. Stunning peplum top and your necklace is to die for. Have a lovely week ahead darling.
