Since I’m still slightly incapacitated, I’ll still be keeping it brief…
THE STORY
…the right thumb is still pretty much out of play, so the typing will remain at a minimum. I can use it, but the pain just ain’t worth it. I did upgrade to a super fancy thumb brace from the raggedy ace bandage I was using. I had trimmed it up to wrap better around my thumb and I have to say it was pretty tragic; it was fraying all over the place. A friend of mine at work told me I looked like I was sportin’ a bandage from the Civil War; fortunately the brace arrived that afternoon. Now I resemble a one gloved street thug ready to throw down in an alley. That’s an upgrade from the Civil War I suppose.
THE OUTFIT
What goes better with cowboy boots than a sequin top? Okay, maybe denim, flannel, a bandana and perhaps a herd of cattle. But I myself think sequins work just as well; probably not from a cattle herding standpoint, but definitely from a style standpoint. Why? Because it’s not something you’d necessarily think to pair together. It’s different and I like different.
THE TIP
Don’t be afraid to pair things that at first glance shouldn’t be together. It’s often the pairing of unexpected pieces that make an outfit really stand out. This is also a great way to showcase different aspects of your personality through your clothes. Think super dressy top and distressed boyfriend jeans, lace skirt and a more casual ankle boot, tulle skirt and a sweatshirt, sequins with just about any casual piece. This is also the easiest way to sneak sequins into a daytime look. Keep everything else casual and low key (including jewelry) and sequins work no matter what time of the day it is. Here I styled a sequin jacket with boyfriend jeans and here a sequin skirt with flannel and a tee shirt.

Unexpected is way more fun in my opinion!
I bought the Dan Post boots after your last post wearing your cowboy boots and the message about making an investment. I love them and I’ve gotten so many compliments every time I wear them. And I’m 50+!
I’m so glad you love the boots Connie! The nice thing about cowboy boots is they only get more comfortable as you wear them.
Simply beautiful and looks super comfy and good on you!

First, sending you lots of love and a speedy recovery! Two, I love this top of you and the tip! Sometimes pairing two things you would not have otherwise thought would fit ends up being the best! Happy Tuesday! Take it easy! XO

Thanks Anna! I agree, you often get the best outfits when you think outside of the box.
Can’t agree more with you that unexpected pieces usually make the best, and most unique outfits. I love cowboy boots and sequins on their own already, and together they totally rock!! You look casually glam in this look that could take you from day to night. Happy Tuesday. XOXO, Elif
Thank you Elif! My favorite thing about getting dressed is coming up with the unusual and unexpected.

Different is good. Different is best
I was watching the pilot episode of Madame Secretary yesterday and she was described as someone who doesn’t just think outside the box, she’s someone who doesn’t even know a box exists. Isn’t that the best thing? And I do believe that’s what happens to us as well, sartorially speaking, when we mentally release all borders imposed by that oh so restrictive box.
I don’t own a single sequin top, how about that? I do, however, have a cardigan with sequinned bodices, and the one time I wore it, I paired it with joggers. I must say, I really want to try what you did here, with the jeans. I think it exudes the sexiest mix of sexy with I’m-stronger-than-I-look vibe!!!

I’m sorry to hear about your thumb. It must be so painful. Love the glitter. It really looks great with your hair. It also stands out so nicely against the jeans.
