Slip Dress & Lace Vest: Thrashed Thursday

slip dress, lace vest, peep toe booties

If you look up the word “thrashed” in the urban dictionary you’ll find a plethora of colorful definitions…

THE STORY

And I mean there are some good ones, go ahead check it out. But in this case I’m talking beyond exhausted. As any teacher can attest to, the first few weeks back to work can really kick your butt. Factor temperatures similar to the surface of the sun with no air conditioning and my CFS into that equation, and that my friends, is my definition of thrashed. Fortunately, the temperature and humidity finally dropped to bearable levels yesterday so at least I’m no longer a puddle of flesh and bone by 8:15 a.m. In any case, today’s post is going to be short on words.

THE OUTFIT

I am totally in love with this burgundy slip dress. The styling options are endless and I plan on wearing it all winter long. I’ve been entirely too obsessed with boho looks lately and this dress is definitely keeping with the theme. The challenge was styling it so that it would be work appropriate while not causing me to melt into the aforementioned flesh puddle. It has spaghetti straps so I had to either wear something over it or under it. A tee would work underneath and it would also be super cute with a long cardi over top, but both of those choices were out because of the heat. Since I was wearing a lace slip/skirt extender underneath (yes, I really did get two more since I loved the tulle extender so much) I decided the lace vest would be perfect to make the top half work appropriate while playing off of the ivory lace peeking out at the bottom. I finished it off with delicate layered necklaces because heavier jewelry makes me feel about ten degrees hotter than I already am. Too bad a statement necklace won’t actually keep me warm once the polar vortex rolls back into town.

THE TIP

Think outside of the box in regard to ways that you can style non-work items for work and vice versa. Sometimes all it takes is adding a layer either under or over to change the feel of a piece of clothing.

On a side note, I was both honored and flattered to be chosen as the Spotlight Of The Week at The Spotlight Weekly Link Up, so if you have a moment stop by and take a look and link up with Jacqueline and Elle if you haven’t already!

You have the ability to layer your dresses in such a beautiful, easy, fresh way. I love that. This outfit is so cool and a little boho. Both the dress and vest are very pretty and unique. I love your style, Debbie. Let me know if we can perhaps do a Bohemian-inspired week one day, together.

Have a great weekend! Ada. =)

    Love this layered look.

That heat really saps the energy right out of a person. I understand why most hot and humid countries have the tradition of an afternoon nap. It is required in order to keep moving the rest of the day.

I think a siesta is a genius idea…wonder if they’d go for it at work?

I saw you had been chosen - yay for you! This shade of red is fabulous on you and will be a great colour through winter when nature barely has any colour. And the layering with the lace highlights just top and tail the look. I love how you’ve picked out the colour of the dress with the nails and can I say, madam, how fabulous you look in da spectacles!!!

I know how much teaching takes it out of you - people don’t realise how knackering it is (that’s the Brit way of saying exhausted!). And I’m with Suzanne. We need siestas when it’s scorching.

You are the queen of layering girl! I love the lace skirt peeking out from underneath and the slip dress is a dream. tell me about the exhaustion that comes with the 1st weeks of school. I just had back to school night last night and I am seriously pooped. It’ll take a 4day weekend to get me going again.
