It’s no secret that I’m a huge dog lover. If I didn’t have my husband to keep me under control I’d be the crazy neighborhood dog lady; that would be the canine equivalent of the crazy neighborhood cat lady…
THE STORY
…I realize that not everyone is a dog lover, and that’s okay. Although if a person isn’t at least a dog “liker” I get somewhat suspicious. I mean, seriously, how can you not love (or at least like) dogs? They have such gentle souls, and all they really want is to be loved and to love you in return. Alright, I’ll get off my soapbox now and get on with the story.
My dogs are like my children. Albeit with hair all over them, no opposable thumbs and the inability to walk upright. So you can imagine what a spaz I am if something happens to one of them. Yesterday morning around 5 a.m. my husband woke me up from a dead sleep and told me that Macie was gone. Macie is our pugabull; ya, I made that up, she’s a pug/bullie mix. And she happens to be my baby girl.
Talk about waking the hell up. That had me upright and running for the door at a speed no human who was very recently sound asleep should be moving. I won’t lie. It involved some tripping and running into walls. Now our backyard is like a compound. There is 6 foot stockade fence enclosing the entire yard, including the driveway which has a gate. There had been a thunderstorm Wednesday night and apparently the wind had been strong enough to blow the gate loose. Well, my little gremlin (yes, her face kind of resembles a gremlin) had discovered this and snuck out when my husband had let the dogs out while getting ready for work.
So here I am at 5 a.m. roaming around on the streets in my pajamas (and wouldn’t ya know it was one of those nights I had worn actual shortie pajamas to bed and not sweats) half asleep and yelling “Macie!” at the top of my lungs. And when I say the streets I mean the streets. We have no sidewalks so I was meandering up the middle of the street. Yelling. In shortie pajamas. And giant bedhead. At 5 a.m. In hindsight…that had to have been something…to look out your window and see that. Fortunately, I heard my husband call for me and say he had found her. She was prowling around the fence line. Apparently she was just interested in checking out what was on the other side. I just wish she would have left me a note or something so I would have known not to make a spectacle of myself in plain view of the entire neighborhood.
THE OUTFIT
This blue peplum cami is one of the things I picked up online when Old Navy was having a ginormous sale a couple of months ago. I snagged it for under ten bucks. When I received it, I absolutely loved it, but alas, no more in my size. But guess what? While searching for links to similar styles for you guys I discovered it’s back in stock…and $13.97!!! Yep, you guessed it. More are on their way. I’m sporting the denim boyfriend shorts today, because, I can’t believe I’m saying this, but they haven’t made an appearance on the blog for awhile. The vest I received c/o Covered Perfectly a year or so ago. It’s super lightweight, thus making it the perfect layering piece for hot summer weather. It’s like a layer that you don’t even realize you’re wearing.
THE TIP
Yes, you can do layers in the summer. I love layers because they are an easy way to add so much interest to an outfit. The key to layering in summer is keep it lightweight. As in super lightweight. The peplum cami is a rayon blend and the vest is a chiffon like material that weighs next to nothing so it didn’t up the hot factor in the least.

Thank you Jill! There are few things worse than that feeling of terror when you realize your pup is gone…I didn’t know whether to to kiss her face or put her in time out!

You should pick one up most definitely! I love it and can’t wait for the other 3 to get here…lol
Glad your baby didn’t stray too far. I have been known to lose it when anything happens to my pets.

Good lord…I turn into a stark raving maniac! I seriously did not care one bit that it was 5 a.m. I was yelling as loud as possible for her in the middle of the road…could’ve cared less what anyone thought.
Just ordered the cami in black — have been looking for just the right thing to where with some outfits I had in mind and this was perfect.
I really think you’ll love it! It’s so lightweight and comfortable even when it’s super hot. One of the three new ones I ordered is black. 🙂
Love this cool, comfy, chic look on you and glad you found your pup.

I am so glad Macie was safe and sound! While you are suspicious of dog dislikers, I am very suspicious of bird lovers! Ha!
I love the Old Navy peplum tops. In fact, I was just commenting to Ada of Elegance and Mommyhood that I have the exact same peplum top that she had styled but I have not worn it yet. I can’t find the right pairing for it. But I think you nailed it with denim boyfriend shorts. That simple! So today might be the day. And I may add a crochet vest over top, too. So thanks for the inspiration!
And thanks for linking up with me On the Edge of the Week. I hope to see you again next week. Have a fabulous weekend!

Trust me…I share the same suspicion in regard to bird people. How about these freakin’ sparrows (whom I refer to as “sky roaches”…the smaller cousin of the “sky rat”) have made a nest under, yes under, the siding by my front porch. Whenever you go in or out the front door they freak out…I hate them!!!
Anyway, the cami is fabulous. It is so crazy comfortable and just flows so nicely. Hence the reason I ordered more. And I’ve found that pretty much anything works with denim boyfriend shorts…lol!
So glad she was home safe. I am a dog lover even though I don’t own one. I’d love to own a teacup poodle and I actually look forward to that. Still shopping around. I love your look Debbie. Cute peplum top!

Aww Debbie I know how you would have been feeling,
(my Mollie took off once near a busy road when all she does on the lead is run after cars. I just felt sick as my son ran for her. Luckily 5 minutes later he came down the hill like a hero with Mollie safe in his arms.) So glad she is ok !!
I was just imaging you running down the road with bed head, hehe :):)
Great look, love your vest cover up 🙂 Thanks for sharing at the weekend blog hop

My dog has done the same thing! I think my neighbors see me chasing my dog in my PJ’s quite often! Love that peplum top!

OH my god, when your husband said Macie was gone…I thought he meant GONE gone and I had a MOMENT. I had dog stress this week as well so am already in a High Emotional Dog State and can certainly Feel Your Pain. Fortunately the story had a happy ending…but I know that feeling. One time Caleb was out of my sight for TEN MINUTES in a big park in Queens and I thought I was going to throw up I was so scared. In the end, after *I* traipsed up hill and down dale screaming for him, he was like 20′ from where I’d last seen him, sniffing out the snack bins (aka trash cans). FOOD trumps HEARING every time. Sadly, now food and partial deafness trump hearing, so coming when called is WAY down on his list and I can’t really let him off lead in most areas anymore cuz he wanders off like an alzheimers patient and then doesn’t hear me calling him.
BUT. Ha, Making every story about ME is my special gift. I’m glad you found your Macie. And that no one called the police on The Crazy Lady with Big Hair screaming down the middle of the street in the wee hours of the morning.
PS, you look like a wood sprite 🙂
Glad Macie is safe! I too have walked the streets many a night looking for King, my big boy cat (he lives indoors now). Love your peplum top, such a great summer look, xox

I would have been beside myself with worry too! I have a couple of dogs (I’d have more if it wasn’t for my husband) and one is a little tinker, she is very much my baby lol! So glad you got her back quickly!
You look gorgeous, as usual. Love the boyfriend shorts.

I love a peplum top too. I think they’re utterly feminine and love how you’ve paired it with boyfriend jeans to play that yin yang game. Glad that your story had a happy ending. Have a great week x
