As I write this it’s Wednesday night. That means two things…
THE STORY
…One, it’s the first day of Winter; aka the shortest day of the year. But that my friends is good news. You see, that means it’s all down hill from here. The days start getting longer and before we know it…warm weather! Ya, ya, I know. We still have to get through the Arctic Tundra known as January and February here in the northeast. But still, at least that’s a positive spin on it.
Two, tomorrow is the last day of school before Christmas break. Honestly, I almost get more excited for that twelve days off then I do for the three months in Summer. I’m just sort of stir crazy by this point, I need a break and two weeks is the perfect amount of time. Call me insane, but three months is too long. Even though I have lots to do I get bored. And I miss my kids. I know many people might find that peculiar, but they really do light up my world.
Two weeks is just right to refuel and be ready to get back at it come January. And this year I’m not deluding myself into thinking that I’m going to accomplish all of these major tasks over Christmas break. I’m just going to chill and if things get done, they get done. If not? That’s okay too. I’m thinking it’s way less stressful to take that point of view.
THE OUTFIT
All black…not something you see me do all that often. I like my color, but hey, black’s a color too right? The key to keeping an all black look from skewing too far into funereal chic is the right accessories. If you add a little bling to break up the black it makes all the difference. The nice thing about a monochromatic look is that it visually creates a longer line from head to toe even if you are wearing snow boots. 🙂
I used to shy away from wearing multiple black pieces in one outfit as it’s almost impossible to perfectly match the shades. But guess what? That’s really irrelevant. All of the varying shades play well together and it’s entirely unnecessary for them to be identical. That’s yet another of those little nuggets of antiquated thinking that needs to go by the wayside.
THE TIP
If you’re going to rock an all black look, try throwing in some sparkle and shine to break things up and make the outfit more visually interesting.
