Mother Nature is apparently the consummate quick change artist…
THE STORY
…today’s shots and these shots from Monday were taken a mere few days apart. See anything different? And the five inches of snow aren’t the only difference. The temperature went from “tolerable without a coat” to “damn…it’s cold”. Since this has been the year of make-believe winter, I’m so over it. Pick a season and stick with it Mother Nature. Last weekend it was in the 40’s and tomorrow it’s supposed to be record breaking cold below 0 temperatures. Seriously, stop toying with my emotions.
THE OUTFIT
I love this plaid slip dress that I scored on clearance at Target a year or so ago. Even though the dress is a more warm weather style I typically only wear it when it’s cold or maybe early spring at the latest. That’s because of the plaid. Why is it certain colors of plaid only seem to be winter appropriate? I have a pink plaid button down I wear all year, so what’s the problem with the red plaid? Is it just me, or do you guys feel that way too?
I layered it over the baseball tee for something different because my first impulse was one of my striped tops or plain black like I did previously. I kind of like the way the straps hit on the black and white of the tee. Instead of over the knee boots I was feeling the harness boots so I added the leggings to keep my legs warm.
THE TIP
A plaid slip dress and harness boots might not be the first choice for many women over 40 (or 50) and that’s okay. It was the choice for me because I like the look and I felt confident wearing it. As I’ve said before, confidence is the key; to so many things really, but it’s definitely the key to your style choices. Especially if you’re a fan of styling outfits that are off the beaten path.
It’s like a circle. If you are confident enough in yourself, you can make fashion choices that others might view as unusual or sadly, not “age appropriate”. And you all know how I feel about that. By the same token, wearing an outfit that you love will infuse you with confidence; hence, a circle. The confidence leads to fabulous outfit choices and the fabulous outfit choices lead to more confidence.

So cute! I’m the same way with red plaid. I can only wear it in the fall and winter! I wonder why that is!

Weird, right? There’s just something “wintery” about it; even if it is a slip dress!
I love your fun sense of style! And you’re confidence makes all the differene with style choices, and you excude it in your photos.

You are just the best at layering, Debbie! Great look and I love the plaid slip dress. I also hesitate to wear red plaid year round for some odd reason. Thanks for linking up with Fabulous Friday! Hope to see you back this week.
