As I’ve stated in the past, I’m not a fan of change, I’m a creature of habit. I prefer my life and my world to be predictable. There are rare occasions though, when I will do something entirely on a whim…
…The conversation in my brain goes somewhere along the lines of, “Hmmm…I think that I want to ________. Okay then, let’s do it right this second!” No forethought, no planning, I just go with it. It doesn’t happen often, but when it does it’s typically something totally off the wall. Like say, oh, I don’t know…cutting off my hair.
I already had an appointment scheduled for this past Saturday for a trim. For some reason, which will remain a mystery (as my whims typically are), on Friday I decided I was getting it all cut off. Well, not all, but probably close to eight inches so it sort of seems like all. I’ll tell ya what, when you take off that much hair it’s almost liberating. And in light of the fact I have a ton of hair I get the added bonus of convincing myself that I lost like ten pounds. Obviously today’s shots were pre-whim. Wednesday’s post will be a more accurate rendition of the current state of my hair, which by the way, I am really digging.
While cutting my hair off on a whim is really not a big deal since it grows like a weed and will be long again in no time, making snap decisions with very little thought in regard to the outcome isn’t always the best route to go. During my erstwhile youth I would occasionally make decisions of the major life variety on a whim. Not something that I recommend I must say. And while we’re at it, let’s call it like it is…I have a deficit in the area of impulse control. I prefer the term “whim” though because it just sounds so much more fun doesn’t it? Kind of like whimsical…brings to mind unicorns and fairies and whatnot.
I haven’t worn this camo maxi skirt for probably several years now. I’m not sure why since the print is insanely cool, it fits perfectly and it’s swishy and fun. The top hung just right without the belt, but I added it for the sake of visual interest. Could I have gone with a black belt as opposed to brown? Sure, most people would in light of the fact the boots and jacket are black. I got past the “taboo” of mixing brown and black a long time ago, and I like to mix them when the opportunity presents itself.
And can we talk about this Blank NYC faux leather moto jacket for just a second? I fell straight up in love when I spied it in the Nordstrom’s Annual Sale this summer. I have absolutely been dying for a day cool enough to wear it. It is buttery soft and lightweight enough not to weigh me down while at the same time being warm enough to sport when the temperature dips even lower. It’s a solid well constructed jacket and I know it’s going to be a closet staple for years to come.
Speaking of coats, currently I’m searching for a replacement for my long camel winter coat. It’s definitely seen better days and probably should have been replaced a winter or two ago. I haven’t had any luck thus far in brick and mortar stores, so I’ve been scouring the Internet in search of the perfect replacement. I’m really loving the whole waterfall/front wrap coat silhouette. The idea of no buttons and wrapping my coat up all snuggly like a robe is really appealing. While not all of these are camel, I did fall in love with these coats I found on Shein.com and wanted to share with all of you.
Forget the rules…mix brown and black with wild abandon. Done right, they work beautifully together. Once you try it, you’ll never look back.
