I sometimes wonder why so many people buy into the images of perfection we see every day….
THE STORY
…both via the mainstream media as well as social media. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy looking at beautiful images just as much as the next girl. But in reality that’s all that they are, images. Maybe it’s a combination of the wisdom that comes with age and the unusually rough life I’ve led, but I often find myself wondering what it is that’s happening when the camera gets placed back in it’s bag. There’s no such thing as perfection. Truly, there isn’t. Life is messy. Even the smoothest of lives has the occasional need for a roll of paper towels.
When I post photos on Instagram I usually don’t use filters. That’s not because I’m obsessed with keepin’ it real, I just prefer them that way. My blog photos, family photos and even just my landscape shots on the other hand usually get a tweak or two with some photo editing software. And that’s not because I’m trying to portray something that’s perfect. I just like my shots to look nice. Don’t worry. I’m not actually 6′ 7″, bald and carrying around an extra 250 pounds with a hairy mole on my cheek (not that there’s anything wrong with that). In real life I really am an elfin-sized redhead with crows feet around her eyes. But at the end of the day, I’m whipped and that’s not always conducive to the most attractive outfit photos, hence, some tweaks. Today I threw in some fake sunlight in a couple of shots just because I thought it looked pretty cool. I wasn’t trying to fool you into thinking a little burst of sunshine follows me everywhere I go highlighting my angelic beauty. But when it’s all said and done and the camera and tripod are put away, I’m still exhausted, I have to cook dinner, feed the dogs and deal with whatever crap needs dealt with. There are plenty of days I need two rolls of paper towels.
THE OUTFIT
The temperature has cooled just enough that my favorite camo pants have made their first appearance of the school year. They saw a whole lot of play during the winter and I wore them once this summer, but not for long because I’m not one for pants when it’s 95 degrees. I kept it pared down with a basic white t-shirt and black peep toe booties. I added a leopard print belt for a tiny dose of print mixing and the killer neck bling and bracelets added a hit of girliness to the camo pants. I know that a lot of ladies shy away from camo, but when styled right it’s really easy to wear. It’s works for a casual look like I did today, but it can also be dressed up like I did here.
STYLE TIP
Anyone can wear camo without looking like you’re headed to hunt bear in the mountains. Just make sure to add a feminine element like sparkly jewelry or pastel colors.

Enh, a perfect life would be boring anyway, right? 🙂 Fun necklace!
I couldn’t agree more. If my life had been perfect I wouldn’t be who I am today. 🙂
Your camo pants are definitely bold and very cool!
Enjoy the weekend Debbie!

Thanks Ada! That’s me….bold and very cool…lol!
Camo looks so good on you, especially with that necklace. It’s one style I’ve not really tried. Not sure why, other than I think I’d look abit daft in it!
I’m with you on those instagram filters that alot of those top end fashion bloggers use. I mean they may look stunning but as you say, reality is quite often different. I prefer a dose of reality as lets face it, we’re all going to get crows feet in the end. It’s natural!

I think you should give camo a try…I don’t think there’d be anything daft about it! For some reason, most of the time my photos look better without the filters Instagram has…don’t know why that is.
Yes life is definitely messy. I love your cameo pants and the ways you keep on restyling them. Love all the bling!

I probably wear them a bit too much…at least they’ve earned their keep!
Crap I want that fake sunshine! What app are you using? : )
Ideally I’d like the fake sunshine to follow me around all day long though. That’d be awesome!
bisous

It’s one of the cool little tools that Picmonkey has. I upgraded to the paid membership to have access to the fun stuff. It’s really pretty reasonable considering all that you can do. And way easier than GIMP or Photoshop.
I don’t mind edited photo’s at all .. hey, if it makes you happy - fine by me.
Also, I’d love to know where you got your bracelets. I’ve been eyeing them for a while and well, I kinda want one .. lol.

Aren’t they beautiful Monica? I’m actually fighting a little addiction problem with them…there’s a red one on it’s way to me as we speak…lol! I found Lorraine on Instagram. She hand makes them and has a zillion crystals you can choose from. Several are on her website, but she posts lots more choices on her Instagram. She can even size it for you so it fits perfectly. Her website is est1984jewelry.com and her Instagram name is @est1984jewelry.
Thanks! I am on her site .. so pretty! Think I like the them all! Will place an order as soon as I can narrow down my selection 😉

Monica,
I forgot to mention that if you email Lorraine she can let you know what all crystal colors she currently has and like I said, if you need it in a different length you can let her know. She is a huge sweetheart, you’ll just love her!
Fake sunlight for the win!!!!!!! No really, I love your honesty and can totally appreciate the effort you put into the balance of keeping it real and keeping it pretty. You go girl!

Right??!! I thought it was so cool looking.
I like the way you added a touch of glam. Frankly, I like living life like a beam of sunlight follows me everywhere I go. If I could train bluebirds to follow me everywhere like Snow White, I might do that too. Chin up, shoulders back, and smiling. Don’t waste a second thought on anyone who nit picks or undermines yous artistic or fashion sense. Haters gonna hate. Cheers. Susan - [email protected]
