Blue Silk Dress & Cowboy Boots: Party In The Back

This blue silk dress might not look like anything special from the front, but my friends, it’s like the mullet of dresses. Business in the front; party in the back. Last week while waiting for a prescription to be filled I decided to peruse our ghetto TJ Maxx. It truly is a sad little TJ Maxx…our store gets all of the leftovers from the cool stores…from like two years ago. I only venture in there when I’m lookin’ to kill time because it’s a rare day I find something worth my while. This dress? Definitely worth my while. It’s so light and floaty I couldn’t resist. And then when I saw the back? Done. Deal. And it’s even more fabulous than the pictures show. The fancy detailing on the back goes clear up to the top. I would’ve gotten a couple of snaps of it sans cardigan, but it started to rain and since it’s silk I figured a downpour wasn’t in the dress’s best interest.

And the boots? Truly a fierce pair of cowboy boots; one of the few pairs of what I consider to be investment shoes that I own. I bought them from Sheplers probably fifteen years ago and honestly I don’t wear them nearly enough. The last time they made the blog was here paired with my tulle skirt. I really need to make an effort to wear them more often because they’re certainly worthy of a little fun now and then, don’t you think?

Buried In Paper: Black Dress, Leopard Blouse And Tan Ankle Booties

I remember waaayyy back in the day, one of my high school teachers tried to talk me out of being a special education teacher because of the piles of paperwork. Mind you, that was in the 80’s when the paperwork was really minimal. We’ve come a long way since then, and due to the infinite wisdom of the government, the paperwork has increased exponentially.
I have wanted to be a special education teacher since I was five (yes, five) for deeply personal reasons. I went into it solely because of the kids. Believe me, when I was a little girl I wasn’t thinking, “I want to be a special ed teacher so that I can waste countless hours of my existence writing IEP’s.” Each child has an individual educational plan (IEP) and they have to be rewritten at least yearly, sometimes even more often. Each document is anywhere from 25 to 40 pages long. Yes, you read that correctly, 25 to 40 pages per kid. That’s not counting all of the additional documents that need done for each student. By the second week in October I will have been out of the classroom for one testing day, three writing days and two meeting days. That’s six total days I’m not working with my kids because of paperwork to satisfy the state. I could pull my hair out at the absurdity of it all.
I figured if I was holed up in my classroom writing IEP’s I might as well be comfy. This dress is a total cheapy from Walmart, but I swear to you, it’s like wearing a freakin’ nightgown. I threw the blouse and cardi over to at least look like I made an effort.

Doggie Xanax And Co-hosting Fashion Item Friday: Floral Joggers, Graphic Tee And Converse

I will be heading out to the pharmacy this morning to pick up some prescriptions. Sounds exciting right? Right now you’re probably asking yourself, “Is she seriously so small town that she’s writing a post about going to the drugstore?!” Well, yes and no. This trip to the drugstore has a twist.  I’m picking up one for the husband and one for the dog. Wait…what??? The dog? Yes, my friends and not just any prescription, it’s Xanax. For my dog. At the human pharmacy. How weirdly awkward is that going to be? It’s my own fault. Charley was running low on pills and I forgot to call the vet. When I did, he was leaving to go out of town. He didn’t want her to be without her meds so he asked me what pharmacy to call it in to. I was like, umm…do you mean a people pharmacy?  What do I say when I go to pick it up? He said, “Tell them you’re picking up a prescription for Charley Stinedurf.” Duh…Ya, this is going to be amusing. And just so you all know, I am not some lunatic who keeps my dogs all drugged up and stoned. My dogs all know I frown upon their use of illegal drugs and alcohol. No dog parties at my house. Charley actually has really severe separation anxiety and she’s very tense all of the time. I just want her to calm down enough to enjoy being a dog. Because really what fun is it being a dog if you’re too uptight to enjoy it?

I wore this outfit the other day when my mini-me and I went to my girlfriend’s house for a play date with her daughter. I love that the pants are plain black and white floral because it makes them a little, I don’t know, edgier maybe. And you notice I’m sportin’ a cardigan over the tee. That would be because it’s too damn chilly to wear shorts and a tee shirt in August. Once school starts and I wear these to work, I’ll switch out the cardi for a blazer and the Converse for pumps or some snappy little flats. The way the weather’s going the blazer might have to be a cable knit turtleneck.
Today I’m both honored and excited to be Co-hosting Fashion Item Friday with my good friend Renae at Simple Sequins. Renae is not only a friend, but a killer thrift shopper and one of the most incredible kick-ass women that I know. Stop by and say hello…you can’t help but love her. Trust me, she’s fabulous!

Fancy Feet: White Boyfriend Jeans, Black Tee, Black Cardigan And Multicolored Flats

Here’s yet another pair of shoes that I absolutely love. It seems I have more spring/summer shoes that inspire great affection than I do winter shoes/boots. Hmmm…does that mean I have to acquire fancier more colorful winter footwear? There’s something to think about… I snatched these up from Target last year during the big Prabal Gurung frenzy. That was actually one of the few collections I really was into…oh, how I wish I had scored that floral blazer, but alas, it wasn’t meant to be.
I decided to pair the shoes with basic black and white so they could take center stage. They work just as well with a multitude of colors, but since I built the outfit around the shoes today I really wanted them to stand out. Hence, the plain black and white.
