Gingham Blouse & Leopard Clutch: The Outfit That Broke My Instagram

Remember last year when Kim Kardashian’s butt broke the Internet? Well, this outfit broke my Instagram account. Not really, but it did get around a gazillion likes and a plethora of comments in just an hour so. It’s funny how that all works. I’ll post something to my Instagram that I think is pretty fabulous and…meh…not so much buzz with my followers. But then I post something that I like, but don’t necessarily find all that fascinating, and Boom! Likes galore. The world is a mysterious place my friends.

I love mixing prints; like that’s a big secret. You can’t just throw any two or three prints together though. The key is to find a mix of prints that are in harmony with each other, both in scale and in color. There needs to be some commonality in the colors. For example, in this outfit, the animal prints and the gingham blouse are all neutral based in color. I’m not usually a fan of mixing animal prints, but the leopard clutch (not a true leopard print, but close enough) and the pumps are small enough doses on their own that they work well together. In my opinion, leopard and gingham, or any plaid really, work particularly well together. I’m not sure what it is, but the two just click (see here for another example). Two other prints that almost always seem to work together are stripes and florals (here’s an example). What are your thoughts on mixing prints? Any favorites?

Sequin Top, Joggers & Chambray: Happy First Day Of Spring

Finally, it’s here; the first official day of Spring. And in honor of that I wore… sequins and sweats. Ya, I know. Floral print would have made more sense, but in light of the fact I have inundated you with floral prints lately I figured I’d shake it up a little bit. This is the first time I’ve been to the park recently that it wasn’t buried under three feet of snow so I was able to actually get some shots on this sweet little bridge that goes over our tiny river. (and yes, it is actually a river and not a stream). Since it was a reasonably nice day there was an overabundance (okay, in my mind it was an overabundance) of people in the park. While I wasn’t necessarily in the thick of things, people did actually see me taking photos of myself. And guess what? I didn’t die of embarrassment. I just did my thang and paid them no attention. Trust me, that’s impressive. Usually I get all awkward and whatnot if people are watching me. Maybe once I hit 50 I became one of those babes of a certain age who just has no shame.

This is the sequin top I wore for New Year’s Eve. Since we all know by now (at least we should know) that sequins are allowed out to play on a regular weekday, I paired them with what else? Joggers of course. Because we also know that if we wear sequins during the day we need to dress them down. And really, unless it’s pajama pants, joggers are as dressed down as it gets. Add chambray and leopard and voila! It’s bipolar dressing at it’s finest. I think the next time someone asks me to describe my style in one word that’s the word I’m going to choose.

Soccer Mom Hair: Tweed Joggers, Striped Tee And Leopard Pumps

First of all, if you are a card carrying member of the soccer mom club then you go ahead and rock on with your bad self. If that’s the look you love, then kudos to you. It’s just not for me; not even during my son’s brief and whining filled soccer career when I actually was a soccer mom.
I’ve mentioned before that my hair has it’s own life, and I pretty much allow it to do what it wants. Fighting it is a truly pointless exercise in futility. But it does seem to go on these rare psychotic benders where it looks like it does in these photos…the first thing that popped into my head was soccer mom hair. It looks, I don’t know…overly styled maybe? And believe me, I put very little effort into my hair ever so “overly styled” is definitely not what I’m typically shooting for.
I picked up these joggers before Christmas on sale at Old Navy. Not only are they soft and comfortable, but they’ve also turned out to be crazy versatile. I’ve styled them several different ways although this is the first they’ve made it to the blog. This is one of those outfits that if I just remove the neck candy and replace the fine leopard pumps with some Bearpaws, I’d have a perfectly acceptable laying around on the couch outfit. Sometimes all it takes is a stand out piece of jewelry and fabulous shoes to change the entire mood of a basic outfit.

The Genius Of Joggers: Tweed Joggers, Kimono, Graphic Tee And Leopard Ankle Booties

Those of you who have been around for awhile are well aware of my love of joggers. Joggers are one of those clothing items that people seem to either love or hate. There’s not really a middle ground. And that’s okay…it’s what makes the world an interesting place. I’m a huge fan because of the comfort level. Anything that is comfortable plus cool (in my opinion anyways) is a winner in my book. They can be dressed down or up depending on what you pair them with. Converse and a graphic tee…and you’re ready to run errands. Heels and a blazer…off to work you go.
Since Thanksgiving is one of those rare days where overindulgence is a good thing, I decided to go with joggers. And a kimono. Because really, what two clothing items scream, “Eat all you want, I’ve got ya covered!” more than joggers and kimono. Just loosen the drawstring and let the kimono do it’s floaty drapey job and you’re good to go. So even if you’re not a fan of joggers, you gotta admit, it’s kind of genius on a day where just one more piece of pie is a must.
This is the first of the indoor shots. I’m loving the screen for a background, but I’ve definitely got some tweaking to do on the lighting. Don’t worry, by Spring when I can start taking my pictures outside again I’ll have it perfected.
