Sequin Top, Joggers & Chambray: Happy First Day Of Spring

Finally, it’s here; the first official day of Spring. And in honor of that I wore… sequins and sweats. Ya, I know. Floral print would have made more sense, but in light of the fact I have inundated you with floral prints lately I figured I’d shake it up a little bit. This is the first time I’ve been to the park recently that it wasn’t buried under three feet of snow so I was able to actually get some shots on this sweet little bridge that goes over our tiny river. (and yes, it is actually a river and not a stream). Since it was a reasonably nice day there was an overabundance (okay, in my mind it was an overabundance) of people in the park. While I wasn’t necessarily in the thick of things, people did actually see me taking photos of myself. And guess what? I didn’t die of embarrassment. I just did my thang and paid them no attention. Trust me, that’s impressive. Usually I get all awkward and whatnot if people are watching me. Maybe once I hit 50 I became one of those babes of a certain age who just has no shame.

This is the sequin top I wore for New Year’s Eve. Since we all know by now (at least we should know) that sequins are allowed out to play on a regular weekday, I paired them with what else? Joggers of course. Because we also know that if we wear sequins during the day we need to dress them down. And really, unless it’s pajama pants, joggers are as dressed down as it gets. Add chambray and leopard and voila! It’s bipolar dressing at it’s finest. I think the next time someone asks me to describe my style in one word that’s the word I’m going to choose.

Gram Gram: Black Tuxedo Pants, Red Blazer And Graphic Tee

So, yesterday I posted the family shots from the corn maze. If you look carefully, you’ll notice my daughter-in-law is quite pregnant. Well, when they got home she went into labor. I kid you not. Just imagine if we had gotten super lost in the maze!!! How much fun would that have been?! “What did you do over the weekend?” “Oh, not much. Just delivered my grandson in a corn field.” Now that would’ve been a good story.
I gotta tell ya, I really, really wanted the “Fabulous” graphic tee from Old Navy. Unfortunately, it was sold out online and at the store not far from me. So I picked this one up from Aero for $6 and figured it would do. Unfortunately, under a blazer it looks like I’m just sportin’ a bunch of random vowels. Fortunately for me, my son is super awesome. He tracked down the Old Navy tee for me…and it was only $7. Yay! Now I can wear my favorite word under a blazer and it will actually make sense. As per usual, I paired the graphic tee with some dressier elements just to keep people guessing. And it also makes for a more interesting outfit when casual and dressy are mixed together.

Mistaken Identity: Lace Top, Distressed Skinny Jeans And Leopard Pumps

I read an article yesterday on Lucky Magazine’s Twitter feed. It was about this woman who has spent over $30,000 on plastic surgeries in order to look exactly like Kim Kardashian. She said she is deeply in debt now, but isn’t finished yet and plans on getting more work done. And she does indeed resemble Kim in a slightly disturbing something’s off kind of way. Umm…what?? I have no problem with plastic surgery or non-surgical enhancements. Hey, if it will make you feel more comfortable in your skin and you can afford it then I say go for it. Getting inspiration from others is cool, I mean really, that’s why Pinterest and fashion blogs exist. But why would you want to completely reshape who you are to look like someone else? It’s just so inherently sad. Unless you’re a top secret government spy who is going to be working under deep cover or an international criminal mastermind on the run, then maybe I can understand it. But not Kim Kardashian….pretty sure your cover would be blown.

This lace top doesn’t get to come out and play very often. It’s just too boxy for my liking. So when I do wear it, I usually go for the partial tuck. I’m just not comfortable with things completely tucked in. And the cut of the sleeves make it hard to wear under a blazer. These leopard pumps are my favorites. First of all, they’re leopard print, ’nuff said. And second, the heel height and shape is perfection. They’re solid to walk in and comfortable. Hence, my favorites.
One last thing. I’m super excited that today Lauren at Style Elixir has honored me with the title of Head Stylist. Seriously, I’m super pumped about it! So please take a minute to stop by and check it out. If nothing else, you’ll learn about one more weird phobia I have besides birds and gargoyles. I’m pretty sure I’d make a perfect case study for some world famous psychiatrist somewhere…

A Little Bit Of Heart And Soul

The lyrics to that song have been going through my head all day like a gigantic brain worm.  Remember T’Pau?  Kind of a one hit wonder with the song “Heart and Soul” in 1987?  If you’re too young to remember, search it on You Tube and then just try to get it out of your head.  Go ahead.  I dare you.
I found this sweatshirt on clearance at Old Navy for just a hair over $6.  Sweet deal, right?  I thought so, so I also got one that says “Hello There” just because it amuses me.  The funny thing about this particular phrase is twice today I told my classroom aide, “I have no soul.” After the second time I pointed out that perhaps I was wearing it with just a hint of irony.
As per usual, when I wear a sweatshirt to work, I paired it with a little something fancier on bottom and some bling up top.  Because really, if you’re going to wear a sweatshirt to work you should probably make an effort to jazz it up a bit.
