Distressed Skinny Jeans & Kuhfs: It’s The Little Things

The post title actually pertains to both my outfit and today’s story. I go to work each day, and teach my kids to the best of my ability, but what I didn’t realize is just how much they have been teaching me. They take such great joy in the little things. Every. Single. Day. I’m not saying it’s all rainbows and fluffy bunnies, trust me, we do have our off days. But even on the off days, they always find something to clap about. Literally. Anything that makes them happy gets a round of applause. Each morning one of my boys who has some particularly challenging issues, does the school announcements over the PA system. And each morning when he returns to class, every one of my kids claps and cheers for him. I never told them to do this. They just do. Our fabulous principal arranged for me to take all of them to see Cinderella and then go out to lunch. She got a round of applause when we told them about it, when she dropped by to visit us at the theater, and when we got back. My special education supervisor stopped in to observe our class today and he too got a round of applause. Why? Because they were simply happy to see him and excited that he was hanging out with us for awhile. He said that anytime he needs a self-esteem boost he knows to stop by our room because the kids never fail to make you feel better. The morale of the story? I think we could all take a page from their playbook and celebrate the things that bring us joy. Even if it is the little things.

Like I said, today’s outfit is all about the little things. The distressed skinny jeans and short sleeve baseball tee; not much of a thrill on their own. Comfortable? Yes. Cute? Yes. Worthy of a round of applause? No. But throw on a pair of Kuhfs, fringed wedge sandals and some bright neckbling and now we’re onto something. What are Kuhfs? Honestly, I hadn’t heard of them either until Amy Olson, the very sweet creator behind the idea, contacted me. I checked out the product on her website and I was intrigued. What they are is a fabric cuff designed to accessorize jeans, boots and leggings and give your look that extra little something. Each design is made in limited quantities so that you know you’re getting a unique look. You simply wrap the Kuhf around the leg of your jeans and secure it with the provided fastener and voila! Fancy pants. The inside of the Kuhf has two rubber-like strips that help the fabric to grip on to your pants and stay in place. They’re easy to use and you can quickly change the entire look of an outfit. You know you’re curious…so take a minute and browse the selection at Kuhfs.com.

Kimono & Distressed Skinny Jeans: The Week That Never Was

I’ve missed you guys! You probably didn’t notice I was MIA, but I was. From sometime Wednesday morning until Saturday afternoon I was lost in some crazy semi-comatose delirium. That my friends is no exaggeration. I’m no stranger to sinus infections; I seem to get them a lot. But this one? Damn. I literally lost all of last week. I was in and out of wakefulness, my head was exploding with pain and my throat felt like someone scraped it with a well-sharpened machete. I honestly remember not much of anything except misery. Finally, my sweet (and very patient) husband hauled me off to urgent care where I was dosed up with super potent antibiotics and Mucinex. After a few days of medication I have finally rejoined the living.

This outfit obviously happened prior to the explosion in my head. How gorgeous is this kimono though? I found it at JCPenney a few months back and couldn’t wait to bust it out. This outfit is an example of how one item can make a huge difference. The graphic tee, jeans, pumps and necklace (another fab piece from Rocksbox) were fine on their own, but the kimono changed the entire game. It snazzed it up and made everything just a little more interesting, don’t you think?

Baseball Tee, Distressed Skinny Jeans & Bearpaws: You Might Be A Teacher If…

…you are equally as excited to receive a giant box from Kurtz Bros. as you are a box from Nordstrom. Yep. That’s a pretty good indicator in my book. For those of you not familiar with Kurtz Bros. it’s a giant school/office supply company that we order most all of our classroom supplies from. And yes, when a box from them arrived at my room today I did a happy dance. Literally. A happy dance in circles like a puppy getting a new bone. I tore into that thing like it had ten pairs of new shoes inside. It was like the party pinata of school supplies…dry erase markers, colored pencils, construction paper, calculators…the list goes on and on. My new program starts tomorrow (Wednesday) and I had nothing, seriously, nothing for my classroom. Several boxes of my stash of supplies was somehow lost when I moved back to the middle school, and I had also left a lot of my stuff for the teacher who replaced me at the elementary so I had nada. And now I’ve got lots of cool new stuff. Yes, it was a good day at the middle school my friends.

I realize that distressed skinny jeans, a baseball tee and Bearpaw boots don’t make for a super exciting outfit, but I gotta say, I thought it was pretty cute for a casual goin’ to the backwoods Walmart outfit. When I went outside to take the shots my husband told our daughter I was going out to take pictures of my redneck hick outfit. True perhaps, but a pretty cool redneck hick if I do say so myself.

Hip Waders: Over The Knee Boots, Distressed Skinny Jeans And Moto Jacket

Over the knee boots are one of those things that has taken me years, literally years, to come around to. I’ve always called them pretty woman boots. They remind me of Julia Roberts’ hooker outfit from the movie Pretty Woman. And then there’s the fact I’m elfin size, so I always figured they would look like hip waders on me. Needless to say a hooker elf wearing hip waders is not exactly the look I’m shooting for most days of the week.
This pair surprisingly hits at just the right height as to avoid the “I’m goin’ fishin’ after I finish my shift on the corner” look. It also helps that they’re flat. I got these from JustFab recently due to my forgetting for the second time this year to opt out for the month. I’ve decided that over Christmas break I’m going to bite the bullet and end my relationship with them. I don’t forget often to opt out, but when I do it pisses me off because I hate feeling like I’m forced to buy something, which in essence I am. While I do really like these (they have a soft fleecy lining, so they’re really warm and comfy), would I have bought them if I wasn’t already charged for the month? No, probably not.
