Kimono & Distressed Skinny Jeans: The Week That Never Was

I’ve missed you guys! You probably didn’t notice I was MIA, but I was. From sometime Wednesday morning until Saturday afternoon I was lost in some crazy semi-comatose delirium. That my friends is no exaggeration. I’m no stranger to sinus infections; I seem to get them a lot. But this one? Damn. I literally lost all of last week. I was in and out of wakefulness, my head was exploding with pain and my throat felt like someone scraped it with a well-sharpened machete. I honestly remember not much of anything except misery. Finally, my sweet (and very patient) husband hauled me off to urgent care where I was dosed up with super potent antibiotics and Mucinex. After a few days of medication I have finally rejoined the living.

This outfit obviously happened prior to the explosion in my head. How gorgeous is this kimono though? I found it at JCPenney a few months back and couldn’t wait to bust it out. This outfit is an example of how one item can make a huge difference. The graphic tee, jeans, pumps and necklace (another fab piece from Rocksbox) were fine on their own, but the kimono changed the entire game. It snazzed it up and made everything just a little more interesting, don’t you think?

Floral Skater Skirt, Graphic Tee & Coral Blazer: It’s That Time Of Year

You know…that time of year when you absolutely adamantly refuse to wear another cable knit sweater or pair of boots. Like ever again. Or at least until next Fall when you’re dying to bust them out of storage. Even if we get that usual March snow that seems to happen most years, I will completely refuse to acknowledge it. Because you know, if you ignore something it just goes away, right? On the bright side there’s no snow or uber coldness forecast for the next week so maybe we’ll dodge that bullet this year.

It doesn’t get more Springy than this outfit. You are all aware by now of my love of skater skirts. (See here, here, and here). But this floral skater skirt may well be my favorite. It’s not just any floral; it’s pansies, and pansies are one of my favorite flowers so I imagine you’ll be seeing it around fairly often. I went with my “Fabulous” graphic tee to dress it down and the blazer to, well, dress it back up. How’s that for being all over the place?

The End Is Near: Graphic Tee, Boyfriend Shorts And Slip On Sneakers

No, I’m not referring to the apocalypse. Thursday is an inservice day and Open House at school and then next Tuesday it’s back to the grind. What does that mean for you, my friends? Real outfits, that’s what! Yes, I know I often push the boundaries in regard to work wear, but unless it’s the weekend, no more denim shorts. To celebrate that, I thought I’d share with you…some denim shorts. Because I’m thoughtful like that. I didn’t want you to wait until next June. Then it will be denim shorts and an orthopedic boot. How’s that for a killer combo? I had my consult with the surgeon today in regard to my foot. In light of the fact it isn’t going to fall off, he said it was okay to wait until next summer although I wasn’t to put it off for too long since it’s possible for arthritis to set in. So next June it is.
This is what I wore on Saturday for the trip to Foxburg and to tool around town in before the wedding. It was cute and comfortable so it did the trick. And the necklace dressed it up enough so it wasn’t a total snooze-fest. So, I’m kinda diggin’ the straight hair thing. My uber fabulous hair stylist straightened it for me the other day, which would be why the blonde ends aren’t back yet. I liked it so much I didn’t want to mess it up by coloring and washing it. I think I’ll roll with the straight look for awhile, although I am going to put my blonde ombre ends back in. Sometimes a girl just needs a touch of blonde in her life.

The Dark Side: Black Skater Skirt, Medusa Graphic Tee And Leopard Sandals

Medusa, a medieval poison ball pendant and a gargoyle photo bomb…put those together with my obsession with apocalyptic fiction and storms and you’ve got yourself one dark, weird ass wench. Although I could probably spin that and say I’m a very well-rounded woman with a myriad of interests. Because on the other hand, I do love puppies, teaching teenagers to be productive citizens and sparkly shiny things. I guess it all balances out. Seriously, how dark can you really be if you think sequins are a neutral?
So, check this out. The other day I was reading this post written by my fabulous friend Maricel over at My Closet Catalogue. About a month ago, my closet suffered the same calamity as her’s and my husband and I had almost the same conversation. She and I chatted, and we decided to do a 90 day no buy together. Because really, I do have an obnoxious amount of clothing. And doing something not so fun with a friend to back you up is always a little less painful. In the not so distant past I went almost 4 years (yes, years) without buying anything new, so I’m thinking I can handle 90 days. Trust me, I’ve got enough clothing to keep you all entertained. And since school starts in another week or so you also won’t be bombarded any longer with denim boyfriend shorts. What a relief, right?
I gotta tell ya…Boohoo really nailed it with these skater skirts as well as the midis I bought several months ago. Both styles are the same material and cut and the fit and quality are fabulous. The midis are currently at the seamstress getting hemmed due to the fact I’m, well, short.  But because of my gnome-like stature, the skater skirts are the just perfect length…not too short, not too long. I will be wearing these a lot and come cooler weather tights and boots will make them winter ready. The crazy cool poison ball pendant came from Third Eye Warrior. Jane has some really unique items that are super reasonably priced. You should definitely check it out.
