Pink Wedge Sandals & Baseball Tee: Get Well Soon

Today my friends, I have for you another little peek into the strange little backwoods world that I call home. Sunday I took a cruise to the nearby small town to run some errands. I took a couple of different back roads (as if there’s any other kind of road around here) to get there and on two entirely different roads I happened upon road kill with a “Get Well Soon” mylar balloon attached to it. No, I’m not making this up. The first one made me go, “Ewww!” The second one made me wonder if perhaps someone had too much time on their hands. On the way home, I took a completely different road; like on the other side of town. And yep, you guessed it. Another dead animal, another mylar balloon. W.T.H?? Not only does someone have waayy… too much time on their hands, I also believe they may have an undiagnosed mental condition. Think about it. Someone took the time and money to go out and buy “Get Well” balloons and then drove around the countryside looking for animals who had made unfortunate road crossing decisions to which they attached these balloons. Wow. Just wow.

Scroll down and take a peep at my feet. What’s that? Sandals? Um, yes…hooray for sandal weather! I recently stumbled across these pink wedge sandals at Old Navy. Since the wedge was just the right height to give some lift while not making my feet scream in agony I also picked up a nude pair. They were super crazy on sale so I got both pairs for about $30. I’m loving them because the color is so vivid and they really are comfortable. Although they did require some shoe inserts because Old Navy shoes are often hard to size because they often only come in whole sizes. These were a hair loose, but the insert fixed that right up. The warmer weather also called for the return of my tissue weight baseball tees. I picked this one up at Express about a year ago and it works just as well with skirts as it does with jeans (check it out here). The sandals and the neon necklace took a basic jeans and tee look to a different level; had I worn my Chucks and a more delicate necklace the outfit would have had an entirely different feel. That just goes to show you what a difference the extras make in an outfit.

Floral Sweatshirt, Khakis & Ballet Flats: Water’s On…

…Well, sort of. After a week with no drinking water (see here for the scoop), the minions from the water company once again hand delivered a flyer. It said the water was fixed…but not really. The metal content is apparently within “legal limits”, but it will still smell and taste funny. You can drink it, but if you’re unsure whether you should, then contact your family physician. Wait…what? I can drink it, but perhaps I should ask my doctor about it first?! No thank you very much. I do believe I will stick to my gallon jugs of water from the store. It seems to me if I need to talk to my doctor for a second opinion on my drinking water then maybe I’ll just pass on that. Like I said the other day; you have one job water company, one job.

This floral sweatshirt was one of only two things I found when I went on my birthday money shopping expedition. Did you ever notice when you have money that is earmarked just for you, to spend on whatever you want, you can’t find anything you want? This top was definitely a keeper though. It’s a lightweight sweatshirt so I’ll be able to wear it all year, and it’s covered in irises. Who doesn’t love irises? I have them growing in bunches of spots in my yard so obviously I do. The neckbling and cobalt ballet flats added an extra hit of fancy while the khakis kept it all simple and casual.

Yellow Cardigan, Cobalt Blouse & Joggers: You Had One Job

As you all know, I live in a small town; as in backwoods small. Civilization is within driving distance, but that doesn’t change the banjo vibe of it. Like in most small towns we have our own water company. As such, they have one job; provide me with water. Let me clarify that statement by saying that I mean provide me with water I can actually, you know, drink. Last Friday night around 10:30 there’s a pounding on our door. I open it to find a small, bearded, flannel wearing (and not flannel wearing as in fashionable, flannel wearing as in the aforementioned banjo vibe) dude who shoves a paper in my hand. He says, “Don’t drink the water until further notice. Don’t drink it, don’t cook with it. All you can do with it is take a bath and do laundry.” Um, what?

I go inside and read the paper. Indeed, the water is so jacked up it’s not even drinkable if you boil it. The paper also says if you do ingest it you run the risk of nausea, vomiting, diarrhea (never thought you’d see those words on a fashion blog, did ya?) and a plethora of other unpleasant things. Ladies and gentlemen, by that point in the day I had already pounded down several glasses of water, two pots of coffee and made dinner with water. Needless to say, I had a rather difficult weekend. The best part is, I come to find out the yahoos knew about the water issue Friday morning…ya, thanks for telling me twelve hours after the fact. The news just said that the soonest we can expect to have safe water again is maybe this Friday. In the meantime I totally feel like a post-apocalyptic prepper; the back of my jeep is dragging on the ground due to the three thousand gallon jugs of water I’m hauling around. You had one job water company…one job.

On a brighter note, how about all of these colors? I feel like an elementary school color wheel lesson, but I like it. It doesn’t get much cheerier than bright yellow, cobalt and red now does it? I got the inspiration for the bright yellow/cobalt combo from last month’s Lucky magazine. The pop of red was my idea. Because, well, the yellow cardigan and cobalt blouse just weren’t quite bright enough on their own. Not really. I was just trying to figure out what accessories to pair with it and while perusing my necklace wall, (Don’t judge. Yes, I have a wall of necklaces.) my eyes settled on the red one and I thought “Yes! And my red pumps too!” And there you have it, color basics 101.

Floral Skater Skirt, Graphic Tee & Coral Blazer: It’s That Time Of Year

You know…that time of year when you absolutely adamantly refuse to wear another cable knit sweater or pair of boots. Like ever again. Or at least until next Fall when you’re dying to bust them out of storage. Even if we get that usual March snow that seems to happen most years, I will completely refuse to acknowledge it. Because you know, if you ignore something it just goes away, right? On the bright side there’s no snow or uber coldness forecast for the next week so maybe we’ll dodge that bullet this year.

It doesn’t get more Springy than this outfit. You are all aware by now of my love of skater skirts. (See here, here, and here). But this floral skater skirt may well be my favorite. It’s not just any floral; it’s pansies, and pansies are one of my favorite flowers so I imagine you’ll be seeing it around fairly often. I went with my “Fabulous” graphic tee to dress it down and the blazer to, well, dress it back up. How’s that for being all over the place?
