Cream Kimono & Floral Tee: What A Difference A Day Makes

In Thursday’s post I talked about how as much as I love my job, sometimes it is thoroughly emotionally exhausting. On the flip side, Friday reminded me of why exactly I do what I do. My principal’s mom owns an absolutely beautiful Samoyed named Rosie who happens to be a therapy dog. She had asked me if perhaps I would like Rosie to come visit my class…of course I jumped on that! It’s not like my love of all members of the canine persuasion is any secret.

Rosie came to visit on Friday. The kids all got to pet and talk with her, see a few tricks and learn about how to appropriately interact with dogs. I do not have the words to fully explain to you the utter joy my kids got from spending time with her. When Rosie walked in the “ooh’s” and “aahs” sounded like we were watching a fireworks display. They were completely delighted with everything she did. There were so many times while watching them with Rosie that I teared up. Hell, I’m tearing up while writing this. When I can give them something that they will truly learn from and remember, something that makes even a small difference in their worlds, that’s when I’m reminded of how worth it my job really is.

This cream kimono is such a perfect example of floaty ethereal awesomeness, is it not? It was one of my very first Poshmark purchases. I’ve been waiting for the weather to cooperate with me so that I could wear it; below zero weather doesn’t exactly go hand in hand with “floaty ethereal awesomeness”. Since Spring has officially sprung, I thought it would be fabulous over my floral tee, and the boyfriend jeans kept all the girliness grounded. And to make it even better, my first Rocksbox arrived and the delicious delicate gold Gorjana bangle I found inside was perfect with the kimono.

Originally I wasn’t sure about collaborating with Rocksbox because I’ve seen them all over Instagram and it was predominantly younger bloggers. I did some investigating and decided that it’s a pretty cool concept for girls of any age. It’s a subscription service and for $19.99 a month you get a box with three pieces of jewelry chosen based on your profile. You can send them back and trade them in for different pieces as many times as you’d like with free shipping both ways. And if there is something you truly love, you can buy it…pretty sweet! All three pieces that came in my first box were right on the money; I would have chosen each of the pieces myself. If you’d like to give it a try with no commitment, it’s your lucky day. Enter “fashionfairydustxoxo” at checkout and try it out for free for one month. If you aren’t totally diggin’ it, you can cancel at any time.

Pink Wedge Sandals & Baseball Tee: Get Well Soon

Today my friends, I have for you another little peek into the strange little backwoods world that I call home. Sunday I took a cruise to the nearby small town to run some errands. I took a couple of different back roads (as if there’s any other kind of road around here) to get there and on two entirely different roads I happened upon road kill with a “Get Well Soon” mylar balloon attached to it. No, I’m not making this up. The first one made me go, “Ewww!” The second one made me wonder if perhaps someone had too much time on their hands. On the way home, I took a completely different road; like on the other side of town. And yep, you guessed it. Another dead animal, another mylar balloon. W.T.H?? Not only does someone have waayy… too much time on their hands, I also believe they may have an undiagnosed mental condition. Think about it. Someone took the time and money to go out and buy “Get Well” balloons and then drove around the countryside looking for animals who had made unfortunate road crossing decisions to which they attached these balloons. Wow. Just wow.

Scroll down and take a peep at my feet. What’s that? Sandals? Um, yes…hooray for sandal weather! I recently stumbled across these pink wedge sandals at Old Navy. Since the wedge was just the right height to give some lift while not making my feet scream in agony I also picked up a nude pair. They were super crazy on sale so I got both pairs for about $30. I’m loving them because the color is so vivid and they really are comfortable. Although they did require some shoe inserts because Old Navy shoes are often hard to size because they often only come in whole sizes. These were a hair loose, but the insert fixed that right up. The warmer weather also called for the return of my tissue weight baseball tees. I picked this one up at Express about a year ago and it works just as well with skirts as it does with jeans (check it out here). The sandals and the neon necklace took a basic jeans and tee look to a different level; had I worn my Chucks and a more delicate necklace the outfit would have had an entirely different feel. That just goes to show you what a difference the extras make in an outfit.

Red Khakis , White Pumps & Converse: Outfit In 3 Acts

Throughout the course of the day, this outfit morphed three different times. The red khakis and white blouse remained the same, but the add-ons changed. I was like Clark Kent bolting into the phone booth only to emerge seconds later with a whole new look. Actually it was all temperature and foot pain dependent, and unfortunately had nothing to do with me turning into a superhero to fight crime and evil in the world. I figured for the sake of keepin’ it real I should share all three looks with you. And to really keep it real, I took the photos after work so that my pants and blouse had that wrinkled lived in look to them.

My friends, I do believe I have finally mastered the skill of rolling the artfully messy cuff on my pants. More often than not, I prefer a messy cuff to a neatly folded one. But for some reason this particular ability has eluded me forever. Believe me, I’ve studied photo after photo on Pinterest and just couldn’t quite get it. I’ve determined that first and foremost, don’t over think it. Just do it. Make the first roll wide and sloppy, do a quick second roll over it and be done. Don’t fuss with it. Don’t adjust and readjust. Fussing just takes away from the haphazard messiness of it which kind of defeats the purpose. What’s your cuff of choice? Messy or neat?

Boyfriend Khakis & Camo Button Down: The Irrelevance Of Being A Fashion Blogger

Sometimes it’s still weird to think of myself as a fashion blogger. I mean really, it’s a hobby; by trade I’m a teacher. But I don’t suppose that either of those facts make me any less a fashion blogger. If being a steelworker brings in the paycheck, but you lovingly tend your garden after hours, does that make you any less a gardner? I think not. In any case, the only time being a fashion blogger is really relevant in my world is when my friends and co-workers come to me for style advice…which actually happens more often than you might think. And I love it when they do because then I get to share my love of fashion in the real world and I gotta admit, that ‘s pretty cool. But, let me tell you the one thing that will make any fashion blogger (and I mean even the big time bloggers) feel completely irrelevant. Take two eleven year old girls shopping to spend some birthday cash. Umm…yeah. After about the third eye roll and or mini-smirk at a suggestion I made, I found myself a nice little bench in Justice to perch myself on and played with my phone. Normally my daughter enjoys shopping with me and listens to my words of wisdom like I’m Mr. Miyagi, but throw an extra little girl into the mix and I was done for. Maybe next time I’ll take a friend along with me so we can roll our eyes at them.

How is it that I’m pretty sure this camo button down has never made it to the blog before? I got it a year or so ago from the men’s department at Kohl’s. Usually I wear it open over a tee, but this time I decided to make it a little more girly by knotting it and pairing it with pink boyfriend khakis. I dressed it up even more with that magnificent piece of neckbling and my bright pink flats. For some reason recently I’ve been mixing my camo with pink (here’s the evidence). But camo is also one of those prints that lends itself well to print mixing like I did here and here. Funny how something that’s known predominantly for it’s association with hunters and soldiers can be so crazy stylish.
