Year In Review Part Two: Favorite Outfits July Thru December 2014

Can you believe it? Today is the last day of 2014. It really does seem like the older you get the faster the time goes by. Speaking of time going by and getting older, yesterday I had one of those moments that brings a tear to your eye because it brings into sharp focus just how fast the time does go. Mini me and I had finished up spending all of her Justice gift cards and I decided to do a quick walk-thru at Forever 21. Do you know what happened? I didn’t find anything, but I bought my daughter her first ever item of clothing from Forever 21. Umm…she’s ten. She was so excited to get something from a big girl’s store and I was so, well, sad. Granted, it was a skirt that on a grown up would have been a total hooker skirt. I mean seriously, it was teeny tiny. With that being said, it is the perfect little black pencil skirt on her. And what made me proud? She chose the black one because “she could do more with it”. Oh, I have trained her well.
I want to take a moment to thank all of you for your support and kind words this year. Without my readers I wouldn’t have a blog so really, I owe it all to you. I wish you all a fabulous New Year and I look forward to an even better 2015!

Hip Waders: Over The Knee Boots, Distressed Skinny Jeans And Moto Jacket

Over the knee boots are one of those things that has taken me years, literally years, to come around to. I’ve always called them pretty woman boots. They remind me of Julia Roberts’ hooker outfit from the movie Pretty Woman. And then there’s the fact I’m elfin size, so I always figured they would look like hip waders on me. Needless to say a hooker elf wearing hip waders is not exactly the look I’m shooting for most days of the week.
This pair surprisingly hits at just the right height as to avoid the “I’m goin’ fishin’ after I finish my shift on the corner” look. It also helps that they’re flat. I got these from JustFab recently due to my forgetting for the second time this year to opt out for the month. I’ve decided that over Christmas break I’m going to bite the bullet and end my relationship with them. I don’t forget often to opt out, but when I do it pisses me off because I hate feeling like I’m forced to buy something, which in essence I am. While I do really like these (they have a soft fleecy lining, so they’re really warm and comfy), would I have bought them if I wasn’t already charged for the month? No, probably not.

The ‘Bombubble Snow Man: Faux Fur Vest, Faux Leather Skirt And Striped Tee

Those of you who have been around for awhile know that I have about 1,246 reasons why I shouldn’t be an elementary teacher, hence my excitement when I returned to the middle school/high school this year. Well, here’s reason 1,247. Today I had to fill in at the elementary (it’s a long story), and I had this outfit on. At the middle school I would have heard something along the lines of, “Cool outfit Mrs. Stinedurf! Did ya kill a bear?” At the elementary school this is what I heard from a 2nd grader I passed in the hallway, “Oh look, it’s the ‘bombubble snowman!” Ya, thanks for that eight year old fashion critic. Actually, it cracked me up…but like I’ve always said, small people don’t get me. Not my sarcasm, and apparently not my style.
With that being said, I love this vest more each time I wear it. It’s soft and cozy and the cut is just right for my elfin size. I picked up the striped tee for about $4 on clearance at Walmart recently. None of my longer sleeved striped tees were black and white so it was four bucks well spent. I layered slouchy boot socks under my boots, but they didn’t show up well in the photos because of the gray overcast yuckiness that’s going on around here. Trust me though, they looked fab and kept me plenty warm.

Bird Pants And One Of My Favorite Outfits Ever: Faux Fur Vest, Plaid Flannel, Sequin Top And Boyfriend Jeans

You might be asking yourself, “What are bird pants? Maybe a really cute pair of pants with little birds on them?” No. I’m talking bird pants. As in actual pants on birds. Due to my recent discovery of this avian fashion statement, I’m just a hair less terrified of our winged co-planetary inhabitants.
The other day my husband and I were on our way home and sitting right next to the road was a hawk. I’ve seen them before, but never this close. He was sporting the most fab pair of feathered pantaloons I’ve ever seen. Click here to see what I’m talking about. And it doesn’t stop there my friends. Because I’m a freak, I started googling other birds that absolutely terrify me and lo and behold, bald eagles and crows also have chic little feather pants. Who knew? I might have to change my whole belief system in regard to those of the avian persuasion.
And now on to what is perhaps my favorite outfit ever. I don’t know what bit of divine inspiration hit me, but I knew I wanted to wear my new faux fur vest and that obviously called for layers. I snagged the flannel out of the closet and then it hit me….sequins! How can you go wrong with fur and sequins? Well, really you can’t. And in an unprecedented sartorial choice I (maybe for the first time ever) I did not cuff my boyfriend jeans. What craziness is this?! But somehow it worked. Maybe it has something to do with the boots that stopped the world. I’m pretty sure these boots make anything awesome.
