White Skater Skirt, Faux Fur Vest & Over The Knee Boots: Insta-Peeves

I started my Instagram account not quite a year ago. I honestly only started one for the blog, and I don’t have a personal account. I know I’ve said it before, and I know that’s it weird considering I have a blog, but I’m a pretty private person. Thus, I don’t feel the need to have a private Instagram. In any case Instagram has become my most favorite social media platform; I’m very visual and love looking at photos. I’ve also made some really cool friends that I wouldn’t have had the good fortune to meet through either blogging or in real life. There are however, a few things that I find rather irksome.

It’s really one peeve broken into two distinct groups. First, are the Instagrammers who follow you only because they are trying to get you to follow back. I have found that typically bloggers or Insta-bloggers who have a large number of followers will follow you and once you follow back they drop you like a prom dress. Then there are the individuals who follow you and when you don’t follow back, again they drop you. It’s all well and fine if you unfollow me because you’re not diggin’ my vibe, but just because you’re trying to boost your numbers and/or I didn’t reciprocate, c’mon, what is this, high school? I do have an app that tracks my followers and unfollowers. And yes, that in itself might be high schoolish, but the trends interest me and I like to know what’s going on with my account. And yes, I do reciprocate with juvenile behavior. Even if I truly love your account (which in most cases I do because I only follow accounts that interest me) if you unfollow a day after I followed you it’s obvious what you’re up to. Therefore, I unfollow because I find it to be incredibly rude to play games like that.

The second group are the people who follow you because they’re hawking one thing or another and want you to buy something. I understand you’re trying to grow your business, but instead of playing silly follow/unfollow games how about trying to grow it organically? Or maybe post something other than 1,000 wrap pictures trying to convince me I’ll be built like a Victoria’s Secret model if I wrap my belly up in some Saran Wrap like substance? I do actually follow a couple of babes who sell those wrap thingys because they post lots of other cool stuff. All of the silliness that transpires on Instagram, and Facebook as well, is just that, silliness. Trust me, I don’t lose sleep over it, but it is irritating and I thought I’d share.

How’s this outfit for breaking the “don’t wear white after Labor Day” rule? I went for it with this one…all I’m missing is white tights. But I’m pretty sure I would’ve felt (and looked) like a nurse circa 1973. I love these Boohoo skater skirts and this white one is one of my favorites so why should it languish away in the closet until May? The faux fur vest was simply an added layer of warmth as were the fleece leggings. And the over the knee boots? I’m pretty sure the skater skirt was just crying out for over the knee boots to go with it, so I obliged. Ya, I’m nice like that.

Thug Life: Plaid Slip Dress, Moto Jacket & Over The Knee Boots

Sometimes on the days my daughter has gymnastics I take my photo equipment with me and snap my shots at a local park, which is where these pictures were taken. This location is actually a big turnaround area that dead ends at the top of an amphitheater that’s in the park. In the past people would park here for events and whatnot, and as far as I have ever known it’s a public area. In any case, the point of my story is while I was wrapping things up and putting my equipment back in the car, a police officer slowly cruises in. I didn’t pay him much attention and got in the car and started reviewing the shots on my camera. So he backs up and parks against the guard rail and just sits there. Staring at me. Now I realize the moto jacket might have given him the impression I’m a thug, but seriously? I’m a chick in a plaid lacy dress with a camera and a tripod. What type of havoc could I possibly be wreaking? Maybe someone in one of the houses down the road mistook my camera tripod for a sniper rifle tripod and thought they should call in the heat. I mean really, what better disguise is there for a sniper than a lace trimmed dress. Since he was giving me the heebee jeebees I scooted on out of there.

How fierce is this dress my friends? I discovered it at Target on clearance and snapped it up for under $13. Yep, that’s right, under $13. I paired it with my fleece leggings, over the knee boots, a turtleneck and the moto jacket because damn, it’s cold outside. I figure all of the snow probably gave that away though. When it was all said and done I thought it kind of gave off a slightly girly 80’s punk vibe which made me happy.

Thinking Outside Of The Box: Winter White Lace Tunic, Black Leggings And Black Over The Knee Boots

My friends, you all know how much I despise taking indoor photos. Even with the fancy camera and fancy flash the lighting in our house is just absolutely tomb-like. I’ve complained before about the fact the room where I take my shots has no windows and it’s pumpkin orange (yes, that’s my fault and no, I have not yet found the motivation to repaint it). I had purchased a four-fold screen to use as a background, but because of the lighting the pictures were still substandard. Well, one of the gazillion reasons I love my husband is because he often will point out the obvious to me when I just don’t see it.
You see, I have a really hard time thinking outside of the box. That’s pretty much in all areas of my life except maybe putting together outfits. Perhaps I use all of my creative thinking up on my fashion choices, thus leaving nothing for anything else. Hmmm…intriguing. Anyway, the other day he asked me why I didn’t take my pictures in the kitchen since I have the screen for a background and the lighting is marginally better. Umm…gee, I don’t know. I guess because in my brain I had to take them in the computer room/office/dog bedroom; even though I have a portable background that I can move wherever I want.
I just got this gorgeous tunic at Viva la Jewels after Christmas. I also ordered it in a beautiful mocha brown color because they were having a 50% off sale, so it was pretty much like getting one for free. But alas, it was not meant to be. There was only one medium left and when they were packaging it to be shipped they noticed a defect. While I was super disappointed, I really did appreciate the fact that they caught that and didn’t send it. I paired it with my fleece lined leggings, faux fur scarf and over the knee boots because it is downright arctic outside. On a side note, I really do need to pick up more fleece lined leggings because it’s like wearing little thermal blankets on your legs…

Hip Waders: Over The Knee Boots, Distressed Skinny Jeans And Moto Jacket

Over the knee boots are one of those things that has taken me years, literally years, to come around to. I’ve always called them pretty woman boots. They remind me of Julia Roberts’ hooker outfit from the movie Pretty Woman. And then there’s the fact I’m elfin size, so I always figured they would look like hip waders on me. Needless to say a hooker elf wearing hip waders is not exactly the look I’m shooting for most days of the week.
This pair surprisingly hits at just the right height as to avoid the “I’m goin’ fishin’ after I finish my shift on the corner” look. It also helps that they’re flat. I got these from JustFab recently due to my forgetting for the second time this year to opt out for the month. I’ve decided that over Christmas break I’m going to bite the bullet and end my relationship with them. I don’t forget often to opt out, but when I do it pisses me off because I hate feeling like I’m forced to buy something, which in essence I am. While I do really like these (they have a soft fleecy lining, so they’re really warm and comfy), would I have bought them if I wasn’t already charged for the month? No, probably not.
