Floral Kimono & Faux Leather Leggings: The Final Countdown

This is it my friends; the last few days until my birthday. And it’s a big one. With a “0” in it. No, it’s not 30. To be perfectly honest with you, 50 scares me a lot less than 40, and 40 wasn’t as terrifying as 30. 30 was terrifying for the simple fact my mother passed away when she was 34 so when I turned 30 all I wanted was to be 35 because I had it in my head that I would die at 34 as well. Obviously that didn’t happen. My fear of 40 was simply based on vanity because man, that sounded old. Now that 50 has arrived I’ve amassed a trove of infinite wisdom and ya know what? It is what is. Like I’ve said many times, I have the taste of a twelve year old girl and the sense of humor of a twelve year old boy so 50 is purely arbitrary. I’m gonna own 50 and I’m gonna kick 50’s ass. So, how do you like me now?

With that being said my damn near 50 year old self is rocking the leather leggings with a floral kimono and a sweatshirt. And I strongly believe I will continue to do so when I’m 70. Can I just tell you how much I love this tunic sweatshirt? I scored it from Townhouse Boutique. They sell their items via Facebook and Instagram on kind of a first come, first served basis. When it popped up in my email I immediately wanted it because it was so me. It’s soft and comfortable, but not at all bulky. I’ll be able to wear it well into the spring and summer on cooler evenings too. The floral kimono has been in my closet since the great kimono binge of Spring 2014. It’s probably the one I wear the most because I love the colors so much. I wanted to add some visual interest to the sweatshirt and leggings and I knew it was just the ticket. I went with the taupe fringe booties because black was just too predictable and if there’s one thing I’m not, it’s predictable.

Lace Tunic, Fringed Booties & Layered Necklaces: And Now For A Break From Your Regularly Scheduled Programming

I’d have to say I’ve been pretty dedicated to getting outdoor shots for the blog this year. I’ve sucked it up, bitten the bullet and braved foot deep snow all in the name of getting that ever-elusive natural lighting that makes us all look ten years younger and a hundred times better. And yes, all of the shivering while looking like I’m not shivering has been worth it. But with that being said, a girl has her limits. My limit would be any temperature made up of a single digit or any combination of digits with a minus sign in front of it. Therefore, forgive the lighting and focus on the outfit at hand because damn, it was freakin’ cold outside today! And it may well be for the rest of the week, so let’s keep that in mind.

You saw the original iteration of this lace tunic here and here. I had purchased it from Viva la Jewels, but alas, they were out of the mocha shade which is the one I really wanted the most. So I was as happy as a honey badger with a cobra when I found it in mocha at shopriffraff.com. I layered it over a black slip for a bit of additional warmth. Ya, ya, I know. How much warmth was I really getting from a black slip? It was a mental thing and it worked, okay? The now seemingly ever-present fleece lined leggings and fringed booties worked on the bottom half. Actually, the addition of these particular booties gave it a bit of a boho twist. I finished it with delicate layered necklaces instead of a scarf or statement necklaces. Although I think the layered necklaces are a statement in themselves. Especially the beautiful white gold/rose gold/and diamond skeleton key necklace that my husband and daughter gave me for Valentine’s Day. Pretty spectacular, right? And for the epitome of high/low mixing, the three strand rose cold necklace I paired it with was on clearance for $7 at JCPenney. Just another example of two seemingly dissimilar items working together to create a mighty fine end product.

Floral Leggings, Chiffon Tunic & Moto Jacket: Fab Outfit But Nothing To Say

Did you ever have one of those days where even though there is surely a plethora of great stories knocking around in your brain you can’t think of a damn thing to say. Well, today is one of those days. Maybe my g-ma hangover has extended into two days and thus the wiring in my brain is still shorting out. Baby boy had his first sleep over ever with grandpops and I Saturday night, and I have to say it’s a good thing I was in my twenties while dealing with babies. It kicked my butt to the point I slept all day Sunday. Literally. All day. To be fair, the problem was predominantly my four legged fur children. Umm…jealous much? I do have to say though, exhaustion aside, nothing beats a little bundle of baby yumminess sleeping on your chest with his face buried in your neck.

I warned you all about the onslaught of leggings the other day and here is yet another example of my new obsession. These floral leggings were on sale at JCPenney’s and of course they caught my eye. In keeping with the covering of the girly bits I wore the sheer tunic over top which covered what needed covered while still allowing the print to peek through. The moto jacket added a bit of edge and of course warmth because seriously my friends, it was like 15 degrees outside today. Warmth was mandatory.

Let’s Try It Again: Open Front Cardigan, Lace Tunic & Leggings

Yesterday I was fully dressed and ready to go in this fab outfit and at the last minute school was cancelled. No, I’m not completely insane. I didn’t go outside in a major snowstorm to take outfit photos. I actually took these Saturday before the storm. Smart girl. Word on the street is there’s another storm coming this weekend. Can I just express my excitement ahead of time? Hey, here’s some good news…45 days until Spring! 45 days doesn’t sound so bad does it? I’m pretty sure I can make it that long. Until then, I’ll dream of wearing skirts with no tights (tights are the devil) and shoes with no socks and being able to leave the house without bundling up in ten layers and starting the car an hour before I leave. Yes…better days are coming.

I have out of nowhere developed this strange and unexpected love for leggings. I’ve never been a fan. Probably because sooo…many people seem to think they are pants which they’re not. Honestly, I don’t need to see your girl parts. I’ve got my own thank you very much. In any case, I’ve been wearing them under dresses and skirts and have started collecting tops that are long enough to cover my butt. Maybe it’s because I’ve acquired a couple of pairs that are fleece lined and they are like little electric blankets for your legs. Maybe my brain’s starting to short out with age…who knows. All I can tell you is you’ll be seeing a lot more leggings around here; but don’t worry, my girly bits will be safely under wraps.

I purchased this gorgeous lace tunic from Viva la Jewels last month. It’s so pretty and soft that I want to wear it all of the time. It’s also light enough to wear into the Spring, but that makes it perfect for layering now which I did with my open front cardigan. I’ve had this cardi for well over a year, but for some reason I don’t think it’s ever made la blog before this. The tunic meets the butt/girly bits covering criteria so I wore my new blue leggings underneath. The leg warmers inside the boots were pure functionality…it’s freakin’ cold outside!
