Floral Kimono & Faux Leather Leggings: The Final Countdown

This is it my friends; the last few days until my birthday. And it’s a big one. With a “0” in it. No, it’s not 30. To be perfectly honest with you, 50 scares me a lot less than 40, and 40 wasn’t as terrifying as 30. 30 was terrifying for the simple fact my mother passed away when she was 34 so when I turned 30 all I wanted was to be 35 because I had it in my head that I would die at 34 as well. Obviously that didn’t happen. My fear of 40 was simply based on vanity because man, that sounded old. Now that 50 has arrived I’ve amassed a trove of infinite wisdom and ya know what? It is what is. Like I’ve said many times, I have the taste of a twelve year old girl and the sense of humor of a twelve year old boy so 50 is purely arbitrary. I’m gonna own 50 and I’m gonna kick 50’s ass. So, how do you like me now?

With that being said my damn near 50 year old self is rocking the leather leggings with a floral kimono and a sweatshirt. And I strongly believe I will continue to do so when I’m 70. Can I just tell you how much I love this tunic sweatshirt? I scored it from Townhouse Boutique. They sell their items via Facebook and Instagram on kind of a first come, first served basis. When it popped up in my email I immediately wanted it because it was so me. It’s soft and comfortable, but not at all bulky. I’ll be able to wear it well into the spring and summer on cooler evenings too. The floral kimono has been in my closet since the great kimono binge of Spring 2014. It’s probably the one I wear the most because I love the colors so much. I wanted to add some visual interest to the sweatshirt and leggings and I knew it was just the ticket. I went with the taupe fringe booties because black was just too predictable and if there’s one thing I’m not, it’s predictable.

Lace Tunic, Fringed Booties & Layered Necklaces: And Now For A Break From Your Regularly Scheduled Programming

I’d have to say I’ve been pretty dedicated to getting outdoor shots for the blog this year. I’ve sucked it up, bitten the bullet and braved foot deep snow all in the name of getting that ever-elusive natural lighting that makes us all look ten years younger and a hundred times better. And yes, all of the shivering while looking like I’m not shivering has been worth it. But with that being said, a girl has her limits. My limit would be any temperature made up of a single digit or any combination of digits with a minus sign in front of it. Therefore, forgive the lighting and focus on the outfit at hand because damn, it was freakin’ cold outside today! And it may well be for the rest of the week, so let’s keep that in mind.

You saw the original iteration of this lace tunic here and here. I had purchased it from Viva la Jewels, but alas, they were out of the mocha shade which is the one I really wanted the most. So I was as happy as a honey badger with a cobra when I found it in mocha at shopriffraff.com. I layered it over a black slip for a bit of additional warmth. Ya, ya, I know. How much warmth was I really getting from a black slip? It was a mental thing and it worked, okay? The now seemingly ever-present fleece lined leggings and fringed booties worked on the bottom half. Actually, the addition of these particular booties gave it a bit of a boho twist. I finished it with delicate layered necklaces instead of a scarf or statement necklaces. Although I think the layered necklaces are a statement in themselves. Especially the beautiful white gold/rose gold/and diamond skeleton key necklace that my husband and daughter gave me for Valentine’s Day. Pretty spectacular, right? And for the epitome of high/low mixing, the three strand rose cold necklace I paired it with was on clearance for $7 at JCPenney. Just another example of two seemingly dissimilar items working together to create a mighty fine end product.

All’s Quiet: Floral Joggers, Pink Chunky Cardigan And Fringed Booties

Today is one of those days where I’m just super down to my bones tired. It’s like my brain is firing at half capacity. Therefore, no witty stories for you today. I had some time between work and my hair appointment so I stopped at a nearby park to shoot these. Let’s just enjoy the change in scenery, shall we?
I call this my borderline boho look. Borderline because while the peasant top and fringed booties are boho, the chunky cardigan and floral joggers take it in a decidedly not boho direction. The top is actually a super lightweight summer top that I decided to winterize by throwing a chunky cable knit cardi over it. And the floral joggers? I wore those just because, well, they’re floral joggers…no reason needed.

Cujo The Trained Attack Spider: Pink Moto Jacket, Distressed Skinnies And Fringed Ankle Booties

There’s a crack with a small hole in our shower right above the faucet. It’s one of those things that, you know, we’ll get around to fixing one of these days. The night before last while I was washing my daughters hair I looked over, and there, perched on the faucet, is a wolf spider the size of my miniature pinscher’s head. Okay, an exaggeration. But it was indeed the size of a half dollar. I screamed like a little girl…actually with a little girl since my daughter was screaming too. With all of the hubbub the spider of course scuttled into the hole. My husband who’s currently got a bum wing and is temporarily unable to fulfill his spider killing duties, assured us that the spider was more afraid of us then we were of it. Umm…ya…right.
Later that night I went in to wash my hair. I verrrry carefully reached to pull up the knob on the faucet, and I kid you not, that freakin’ spider dove out of the hole at me. Like he was waiting. Stalking his prey. Looking for just the right moment to strike. WTH??!! Then he sat there. Literally sat there. And stared me down…waiting for my next move. So I of course did what any self-respecting grown woman would do. I grabbed my hair spray and doused his furry spider ass. This caused a rapid retreat into his evil lair. I haven’t seen him since then, but I have no doubt he’s in the wall plotting revenge. And I’m sure his hair looks fabulous.
This is my most favorite of my moto jackets. I love how the soft pink opposes the biker chick vibe. The opposition is what makes it interesting. I’ve paired it with skirts before and it looks just as good as it does with the distressed skinnies. And hey, can we talk about these fine, fine booties for a moment? I don’t what I love more, the soft taupe color or the swishy fringe. I think it’s a combination of the two that makes them so fabulous. I didn’t love them nearly as much in black as I do in the taupe. I’m pretty sure these will stay in steady rotation throughout the year.
Last but not least, I’ve included a round-up of my favorite looks from November. As you can see, it was a big month for pants in my world. You can check out the original posts here: Outfit 1Outfit 2Outfit 3 and Outfit 4.
