Outfit Redo: Camo pants, Striped Turtleneck, Blue Blazer And High Heeled Work Boots

I did some shots of two different outfits yesterday and this is one of them. It was a casualty of crabasaurus week, which I explained in Friday’s post. It was kind of like shark week. But on dry land. Even though I felt like a bitchy hot mess all week I did have enough rationality in my brain to know that this was a good look. Just the right mix of prints and of course the boots that changed the world, so it was my duty as a blogger to recreate it for you guys.
I am both flattered and honored to be included in some great round ups on two of my favorite blogs. First of all, Linda at alabouroflife.com included me in her list of Top Ten Over 40 Fashion Bloggers. Believe me, when you see the other ladies included on her list you’ll understand how I feel. Also, another of my good blogging friends, Dawn, at fashionshouldbefun.blogspot.com has honored me with a spot on her Fringe Movement Round Up list. Again, take a peek at the other stone cold foxes included on the list and you’ll totally get me. Thanks for the love, ladies!
This outfit is a totally unabashed print mix party. I brought camo, stripes and leopard all along for the ride. The only thing missing is some plaid…okay, that might have been overkill. This turtleneck is one of the many “best turtlenecks ever” that I scored at Old Navy for about $6 each. I bought five different colors because seriously my friends, this is one fine turtleneck. I’ve always liked the idea of turtlenecks, but not the confinement. These are made of a floaty, lightweight modal blend and the neck slouches just right. They’re perfect for layering or on their own. They’re still available online, but I found them slightly cheaper in-store.

Year In Review Part Two: Favorite Outfits July Thru December 2014

Can you believe it? Today is the last day of 2014. It really does seem like the older you get the faster the time goes by. Speaking of time going by and getting older, yesterday I had one of those moments that brings a tear to your eye because it brings into sharp focus just how fast the time does go. Mini me and I had finished up spending all of her Justice gift cards and I decided to do a quick walk-thru at Forever 21. Do you know what happened? I didn’t find anything, but I bought my daughter her first ever item of clothing from Forever 21. Umm…she’s ten. She was so excited to get something from a big girl’s store and I was so, well, sad. Granted, it was a skirt that on a grown up would have been a total hooker skirt. I mean seriously, it was teeny tiny. With that being said, it is the perfect little black pencil skirt on her. And what made me proud? She chose the black one because “she could do more with it”. Oh, I have trained her well.
I want to take a moment to thank all of you for your support and kind words this year. Without my readers I wouldn’t have a blog so really, I owe it all to you. I wish you all a fabulous New Year and I look forward to an even better 2015!

Bird Pants And One Of My Favorite Outfits Ever: Faux Fur Vest, Plaid Flannel, Sequin Top And Boyfriend Jeans

You might be asking yourself, “What are bird pants? Maybe a really cute pair of pants with little birds on them?” No. I’m talking bird pants. As in actual pants on birds. Due to my recent discovery of this avian fashion statement, I’m just a hair less terrified of our winged co-planetary inhabitants.
The other day my husband and I were on our way home and sitting right next to the road was a hawk. I’ve seen them before, but never this close. He was sporting the most fab pair of feathered pantaloons I’ve ever seen. Click here to see what I’m talking about. And it doesn’t stop there my friends. Because I’m a freak, I started googling other birds that absolutely terrify me and lo and behold, bald eagles and crows also have chic little feather pants. Who knew? I might have to change my whole belief system in regard to those of the avian persuasion.
And now on to what is perhaps my favorite outfit ever. I don’t know what bit of divine inspiration hit me, but I knew I wanted to wear my new faux fur vest and that obviously called for layers. I snagged the flannel out of the closet and then it hit me….sequins! How can you go wrong with fur and sequins? Well, really you can’t. And in an unprecedented sartorial choice I (maybe for the first time ever) I did not cuff my boyfriend jeans. What craziness is this?! But somehow it worked. Maybe it has something to do with the boots that stopped the world. I’m pretty sure these boots make anything awesome.

The Boots That Stopped The World: Camo Pants, Moto Jacket And Heeled Work Boots

So maybe the boots didn’t actually stop the world per se. But they did interrupt social studies class and that involves studying the world which makes it kind of the same. No? Well, they are pretty freakin’ awesome boots in any case. They apparently have a universal appeal for seventh graders~male, female~ it doesn’t matter they all love them. Which either makes me really cool or really inappropriate, not sure which. Since I too love the boots I’m going with cool.
The kids had just started working on some independent work and there were all of these hands going up. They didn’t want to talk to their actual social studies teacher, they want to talk to me. After I approached about the 5th student and got some whispered variation on “Those are really cool boots!” I had to announce to the whole class to please focus on finding the Philippines on their maps and not on my boots. Fortunately, the other teacher and I are friends so no harm, no foul.
Since I was taking a walk on the rugged side with the boots and camo pants, I threw in the lace tank top under the sweater to add a touch of girly. I also wanted to break up all of the olive green. Obviously, I was really feelin’ the olive when I put this together. The moto jacket was the required extra layer because it is November after all, and a girl’s gotta keep warm while looking cool.
