Plaid Blanket Scarf, Striped Turtleneck & Boyfriend Jeans: I’m Breaking Up With You Cap’n Crunch

I was so proud of myself after the holidays. I had only gained about two pounds which in the grand scheme of things isn’t all that much. But during the first two weeks or so of January I was in a full-on hormonally induced feeding frenzy. I was like a mindless zombie, oh yes I was. And every evening, like clockwork, I’d bust out the Cap’n Crunch and pound down a bowl. Why Cap’n Crunch and not fancy Godiva chocolates you might be wondering? While I was growing up I pretty much raised myself and like any kid who was left to fend for themselves I existed on junk food. My primary food groups were Cheetos, Pepsi, Ho Ho’s and Cap’n Crunch. I threw in the Cap’n Crunch because a girl needs her fruit, and it does have crunch berries after all.

Now that I’m all grown, I for the most part eat fairly well, but I do like my indulgences. And one of those happens to be the Crunch. It’s one of the few foods that still tastes exactly like I remember it from childhood….sweet, crunchy, delightful and entirely bad for my ass. Which leads me to the break up. My body is super sensitive to extra crapola and calories, so in just a few short weeks I packed on several pounds. My clothes have all threatened to go on strike if I don’t knock it off, and since I don’t really feel like going into contract negotiations with my pants it’s time to kick the Crunch habit. I’m not going all kamikaze and giving it up completely. Just no more nine o’clock at night gallon buckets of it. Please forgive me Cap’n. It’s not you, it’s my ass.

I had initially thought about cutting my plaid blanket scarf in half. I mean, admit it ladies, if you own one you know it’s a whole lotta scarf to be wrestling with. I’m actually glad that I didn’t though because it does double duty as a shawl. I posted shots with it as a scarf and a shawl because the day I wore it, I had it both ways throughout the day depending on how cold I was. I couldn’t resist mixing the plaid with stripes so I threw it over one of the holy grails of turtlenecks from Old Navy. And the boots? Those are my Christmas Bearpaws, but this time I unfolded them and tied them the whole way up. In this post I sported them folded down with the fluffy insides visible to the world. Pretty versatile for a pair of snow boots, hence the reason I obsessed over them for months.

A Serendipitous Turn Of Events: Striped Maxi Skirt, Denim Vest, Plaid Scarf And Firmoo Glasses

If you happen to follow me on Instagram, then perhaps about three weeks ago you saw the group project that my sheltie and bulldog engaged in. You see, Charley (the sheltie) is a stealth ninja kleptomaniac. She can get up on the highest counter or table and quite gracefully and without a sound, steal any number of random things. Things that it doesn’t even make sense for a dog to steal. Like, say…my glasses. She is in a pack leader power struggle with Bawb (the bulldog) so she sets him up whenever the opportunity presents itself. I’m pretty sure the day she stole my glasses she said something like this to Bawb…”Hey, dude. I know for a fact if you absolutely decimate these glasses mama will love you so much that she’ll give you extra cuddles and treats.” So being a good boy who wants to please his mama, Bawb took my glasses out to the yard and ate them. Literally. I only find a shard of one lens and a few pieces of frame. Needless to say, no one got extra cuddles or treats. But the vet did get a call.
As the title states, about a a week after the eating of the glasses a fortunate stroke of serendipity entered my life via Firmoo, an online optical store. They asked if perhaps I would be interested in reviewing a pair of their prescription eyeglasses. Umm…yes. Are you kidding me?? I was getting ready to buy a replacement pair so seriously, could there have possibly been better timing?
Trust me, I was apprehensive because I have never ordered actual prescription glasses online. It was kind of a scary proposition. They have an excellent selection of frames, but they all seemed bigger than what I typically get. Fortunately I was able to upload a photo of myself and “try on” each pair. That really helped in the selection process, but I was still a bit wary.
I received my new glasses about a week after I ordered them. Believe me, I tore into them like a kid at Christmas. I put them on and was immediately in love. Why had I always gotten smaller frames? What had I been thinking? I guess I figured with my little elf face big frames would look ridiculous. But au contraire my friends, they were fabulous. And the prescription was spot on. I can tell you with absolute honesty, if you’re considering getting new specs then Firmoo is definitely worth checking out. Oh, and maybe keep your glasses in a lock box to keep them safe from stealth ninja shelties.

The Most Incredible Timing Ever: Floral Print Joggers, Plaid Scarf And Quilted Slip On Sneakers

I don’t know about you, but other drivers often irritate me with their lack of manners and utter disregard for the safety of everyone around them. About a million times in my life I’ve thought, “Man, I wish there was a cop here right now.” Yesterday the magic happened, and I was as happy as if someone had given me a $500 Target gift card. (Well, at least pretty close to that happy. Because a $500 gift card? To Target? Seriously?) Forgive me, I digress.
I was on my way to the store and was coming up on one of the side street/intersections near my house. A police cruiser was waiting for me to pass so he could turn left on to the street. Now mind you, the only two vehicles on the road, and in broad daylight, are myself and the cruiser. I see a car barreling towards the intersection on the side street. I thought they would surely stop since, well, you know…they had a stop sign and a police cruiser was right there in front of their face. Ummm…no. I cannot tell you how they did not hit the ass end of my jeep. The car dropped in so tight behind me I could see the food caught in the guy’s teeth in my rear view mirror. The police officer immediately did a U-ie and turned on his lights. I actually laughed out loud and did a happy dance in my seat. Seriously. I did. The best part? When I came back from the store about fifteen minutes later he still had the guy pulled over. I did what any mature adult would do and waved and smiled at them.
I decided a little print mixing was in order when I put this together. So I used two of my favorite prints, plaid and floral. As you guys know, I always try to be completely authentic and only share with you what I actually wear. And if for some reason I don’t, I tell you. I actually wore the quilted slip on sneakers, but knew beyond a doubt the ankle booties looked better. But my foot was being particularly ornery so I had no choice but to go with the sneakers. In any case, I wanted to show you both ways…the reality and the way it should have been.

October Faves Plus Where’s Waldo: Striped Sweatshirt, Plaid Blanket Scarf And Converse

How is it November already? Was there some sort of rip in the time/space continuum that caused us to skip from May to November? If there was, shouldn’t that have been on CNN or something? At least then I wouldn’t be so confused and maybe would have seen it coming. Not only did I not see November creepin’ up on me like some sort of unwanted stalker, but I swear to you that on Friday it was still Fall, but when I got up Saturday morning it was Winter. Straight up freezing I tell ya. While I was loading groceries into my car I sprouted icicles on my fingers. Okay, maybe it wasn’t quite that cold, but I did feel kind of bitch slapped by Winter.
I love this sweatshirt, it’s actually one of my favorites. But every time I wear it I feel like Waldo. I’m not sure why. I have other striped tops, but only this one makes me feel like people are looking for me. I decided to kill two birds with one stone. Layering and mixed prints all in one sweet little outfit. I thought the plaid and stripes played well together so I went for it. Speaking of the plaid, I almost didn’t get the scarf because it’s so uber-trendy and everywhere at the moment. The problem is, I have wanted one for a reeaallly long time. So I decided this was one of those instances where I shouldn’t not get something simply because it was trendy. It’s sort of the opposite of wearing things because I love them even when they aren’t “in”.
