October Faves Plus Where’s Waldo: Striped Sweatshirt, Plaid Blanket Scarf And Converse

How is it November already? Was there some sort of rip in the time/space continuum that caused us to skip from May to November? If there was, shouldn’t that have been on CNN or something? At least then I wouldn’t be so confused and maybe would have seen it coming. Not only did I not see November creepin’ up on me like some sort of unwanted stalker, but I swear to you that on Friday it was still Fall, but when I got up Saturday morning it was Winter. Straight up freezing I tell ya. While I was loading groceries into my car I sprouted icicles on my fingers. Okay, maybe it wasn’t quite that cold, but I did feel kind of bitch slapped by Winter.
I love this sweatshirt, it’s actually one of my favorites. But every time I wear it I feel like Waldo. I’m not sure why. I have other striped tops, but only this one makes me feel like people are looking for me. I decided to kill two birds with one stone. Layering and mixed prints all in one sweet little outfit. I thought the plaid and stripes played well together so I went for it. Speaking of the plaid, I almost didn’t get the scarf because it’s so uber-trendy and everywhere at the moment. The problem is, I have wanted one for a reeaallly long time. So I decided this was one of those instances where I shouldn’t not get something simply because it was trendy. It’s sort of the opposite of wearing things because I love them even when they aren’t “in”.

Sometimes Change Is Really Good: Lace Dress, Plaid Shirt And Ankle Booties

I’m a creature of habit. I like my world to be just so; I kind of like to know what to expect each day when I get up in the morning. Sometimes though, a change in your world comes along that is so good you can’t help but be happy about it. A couple of weeks ago, unexpectedly and out of nowhere, my whole work world got shaken up. Normally, I focus on my real life and try to keep work on the periphery of things. But I gotta say, it doesn’t hurt when you are truly excited to get up and go to work in the morning. I honestly can’t remember the last time I felt this way.
Since forever I have felt that the way our special education program was set up was doing a huge disservice to a sizable number of my kids. Unfortunately, changes of the magnitude that needed to be made were well above my pay grade. No, that’s not a cop out. It’s the reality. A couple of weeks ago the major abyss in our programming became apparent to someone who could make the changes. And lo and behold I am now officially the Life Skills Support teacher. I know a lot of you are probably thinking, “Um, okay. Good for you.” But I am crazy excited about this! I’m actually going to be able to help get my kids ready to live in the real world and equip them with the skills they truly need to be successful. This new program requires a ginormous amount of work on my part. I have to visit other programs, write an entire curriculum and get my classroom set up, but ya know what? It’s all going to be worth it and I cannot wait to get it up and running. And I can’t tell you how good it feels to be this excited about work again.
I haven’t worn this dress for over a year, so I figured I should take it out of hiding. Since it’s lace, it can run the risk of being too precious if paired with the wrong add-ons. That’s why I decided to go with the plaid shirt, anorak and ankle booties. I love the juxtaposition of girly and outdoorsy. It tones down the sweetness of the dress without taking too much away from it. I’d like to say I added the sheer tights/hose to add to the look, but honestly I was just being lazy. I so did not feel like messing with self tanner, and trust me, at this point in the year my legs are way too pale to go naked.

83: Graphic Tee, Long Vest And Cropped Jeans

I know if you’re observant, you think I’m crazy. Or I don’t know my numbers. Or maybe I made a typo. None of the above actually. I’ve been on the prowl for an 83 shirt for literally a couple of years now with no luck. Since 82 is at least in the same decade, I figured it would do until 83 comes along. My husband thinks I’m a weirdo, but it made sense to me. And how about the super awesome vest? It’s a recent Target acquisition and it is absolutely going to be worth what I paid for it. I’ve already come up with about a hundred different ways I can style it so you’ll definitely be seeing it again.
So, today is kind of a big day for me in the blog world. First of all, my good friend Claire has honored me with a feature on Creative Mondays which is super exciting. Annnnddd…today is my one year blogiversary!! Yay me! When I started this whole venture I had no idea where it was going or how long it would last. I’ve gotta say I love it even more today than I did in the beginning. I can’t even imagine not blogging now that I’ve started. And the best part? All of the friends I’ve made. I honestly didn’t see that coming. I thought blogging was kind of a solitary thing, but it turns out it opened up a whole world of truly fabulous people that I otherwise would have never had the pleasure of knowing. I want to thank all of you for reading and commenting, as well as for your support and friendship over the last year. I just know the next year is only going to be better!

Autumn Pink

When you think of fall colors pink is definitely not the first one to pop into your head.  Soft pink is trending this fall, especially in outerwear.  And as fate would have it, I do have a pale pink peacoat that I’ve had for a long time.  It will definitely be making an appearance in the future, not because it’s “trendy”, but because I like it.   Funny thing is, I’ve worn that coat for years just because it’s pretty with absolutely no regard as to whether the fashion gods deemed it cool.
Enough about the coat.  These pants are one of my gazillion pairs of GAP broken in khakis.  I got this pair in the spring, but since I really like them I’m still wearing them now that the temperatures are below 80 degrees.  I wear my darker ones all year, so why not these? And how about that scarf…is that not the most fabulous shade of bright pink ever?

I didn’t crop this picture because of the double-dog photo bomb…it’s always the pug-a-bull, so I thought it was time the sheltie and the min pin got their 15 minutes of fame.  Again, that corner is super intriguing!  Oh. Yeah.  There’s a gargoyle photo bomb too.  He doesn’t live in the house though because he isn’t housebroken yet and his claws are hell on the furniture.
