Striped Dress & Converse: A Sweet Collaboration

A few weeks back I was approached by Sulay, the owner of a cute little Etsy shop called Never Lose Hope Stand Up. She was kind enough to offer me a credit to her shop so that I could try out a few pairs of her adorable earrings. I honestly had a difficult time choosing because you all know I have a thing for floral print and well, she has a ton of delicately detailed flower studs to choose from. I ended up choosing two pairs of the florals as well as a pair of druzy drop earrings. She was kind enough to also send an additional pair of crystal studs. I wore the red roses with today’s outfit and I can’t wait to wear the druzy drops because they are truly gorgeous…super sparkly which I love (ya, I’m kinda like a magpie when it comes to shiny stuff).

The weather was outrageously beautiful today (hello 70 degrees!), but it was also outrageously windy so it was tough to get a good shot of the earrings considering my hair was wrapped around my face. They were perfect with my striped dress and plaid button down though because the bright red tied right in with the red stripes and plaid. And the Converses? Well, Converses pretty much work with everything. What are your thoughts on sneaks with dresses and skirts…do you or don’t you?

Leopard Print Blazer, Plaid Blouse & Layered Necklaces: Hair Scare & A Nordstrom Giveaway

One would think that after teaching special education for almost 25 years I would learn to anticipate certain things. Like the effect of changes, for example. I know that my kids have a super hard time with change; move the furniture, they freak out; two hour delay schedule, they’re confused all day. But tweek my hair color? The whole damn world ends.

I suppose I should have seen that one coming. Although, to be fair, they’ve all been with me for quite awhile and they pretty much seem to roll with my fashion/beauty related quirkiness. I switch from summer to winter hair and vice versa every year. But for some reason the hair color change this time threw a couple of my little lovelies for a loop. You would’ve thought I shaved my head bald and tattooed my scalp. And moved all of the furniture. To another room. One of my kids took one look at me, bolted across the room to my friend/aide and while pointing at me and hopping up down kept saying, “Look at Mrs. Stinedurf! Look at her hair!” I had to pull my mirror out of my desk just to look and make sure my head wasn’t on fire.

So, my friends, how’s this for a super bold print mix? Truly, this particular mix isn’t for the faint of heart or the print mix virgin. I knew I wanted to mix plaid and leopard so I started with my leopard print blazer and built it from there. I considered a plaid flannel, but decided the sheer plaid blouse had more of the right feel; less bulky and more floaty. In keeping with the lighter feel, I went with the delicate layered necklaces as opposed to a statement necklace or scarf. I finished it off with my super cool red ankle booties since they tied in so well with the blouse.

Lavender Midi Skirt, Plaid Top & Black Boots: First Day Of School Pt. 2

Yesterday was my first official day with my new Life Skills program at school. I have eight students (6th thru 8th graders) and they are with me most of the day for Math, Language Arts, Social Studies and Science. I also have them for a period where we work on social skills and just do fun activities to work on interacting with each other appropriately. You guys…I’m having so much fun at work I can’t stand it! The kids are all super excited about it too so that makes it all the better. Especially because how often do middle school kids get excited about anything school related? And let’s be real for a second, how cool is it that I’ve been teaching for 25 years and I’m loving my job more now than maybe I ever have. Since I was at the elementary for several years I’ve had most of them since the third grade so we’re all used to each other and it’s kind of a family-like atmosphere. I’m still a bit overwhelmed because every day boxes of new materials arrive and I have so much to sort through and organize. It will all come together though. What matters the most is my kids are now where they are going to learn the best, and they can feel comfortable and happy while doing it.

I decided I needed some color in my life so I thought my lavender midi skirt and plaid top would do just fine. And how about that gorgeous neck bling?! I don’t know why I tend to wear black and gray so much more often in the winter. Don’t get me wrong…I love black, and gray is my favorite neutral, but sometimes a girl’s just gotta have some color. Since we’re still in the midst of the arctic tundra season boots were a necessity. These black beauties have been lurking around in the furthest reaches of our attic for years. Literally, years. I think the last time I wore them was probably six winters ago. Crazy, right? These are some pretty smokin’ hot boots to have been forgotten in the shadows for so long.

Ham & Eggs And A Readers.com Feature: Boyfriend Vest, Plaid Shirt And Converse

I love my job. And here’s one of the primary reasons. While my Life Skills program hasn’t officially started yet, I do teach Life Skills science. Right now we’re studying turkeys. Ummm…it’s November people…what else would we be studying?! Anyway, today I asked my little lovelies what they thought turkeys eat based on what we’d already learned about where they live. They had to write down three possible guesses. In all seriousness, one of my kids listed ham, eggs and apples. That made my day. One of the best answers ever. Who’s to say turkeys don’t have Sunday family brunches complete with ham and eggs? Have you ever been hanging out with a posse of turkeys on a Sunday afternoon? Me neither, so maybe, just maybe, that’s what they eat.
This sweater vest was discovered during the Great Attic Purge of Summer 2014. It was my hubby’s back in the 90’s and when I unearthed it I knew it’s time had come again. Had my ridiculous foot not been hurting I’d have paired this outfit with my leopard pumps to fem it up a bit. Instead I went with the Converse and rocked the total dude look.
