Leopard Print Blazer, Plaid Blouse & Layered Necklaces: Hair Scare & A Nordstrom Giveaway

One would think that after teaching special education for almost 25 years I would learn to anticipate certain things. Like the effect of changes, for example. I know that my kids have a super hard time with change; move the furniture, they freak out; two hour delay schedule, they’re confused all day. But tweek my hair color? The whole damn world ends.

I suppose I should have seen that one coming. Although, to be fair, they’ve all been with me for quite awhile and they pretty much seem to roll with my fashion/beauty related quirkiness. I switch from summer to winter hair and vice versa every year. But for some reason the hair color change this time threw a couple of my little lovelies for a loop. You would’ve thought I shaved my head bald and tattooed my scalp. And moved all of the furniture. To another room. One of my kids took one look at me, bolted across the room to my friend/aide and while pointing at me and hopping up down kept saying, “Look at Mrs. Stinedurf! Look at her hair!” I had to pull my mirror out of my desk just to look and make sure my head wasn’t on fire.

So, my friends, how’s this for a super bold print mix? Truly, this particular mix isn’t for the faint of heart or the print mix virgin. I knew I wanted to mix plaid and leopard so I started with my leopard print blazer and built it from there. I considered a plaid flannel, but decided the sheer plaid blouse had more of the right feel; less bulky and more floaty. In keeping with the lighter feel, I went with the delicate layered necklaces as opposed to a statement necklace or scarf. I finished it off with my super cool red ankle booties since they tied in so well with the blouse.

Le Soleil: Leopard Blazer, Lounge Pants And Graphic Tee

I really have an affinity for anything with a sun and/or moon print on it. I acquired my love for suns and moons (and squishy English Bulldogs) from my husband. We’ve been together for about 28 years now (that’s well over half my life!) and during the course of those years, so many of the things we like have just kind of melded together. I think that’s probably part of any good relationship. So when I saw this top on clearance at Tilly’s a few months back I snatched it up. I paired it with my leopard blazer because my favorite way to wear it is with a graphic tee underneath. I went with the lounge pants because, well, they’re comfortable. Do I need a better reason?

Plaid Leopard: Leopard Print Blazer, Plaid Pants And A Graphic Tee

The plaid in these pants is so subtle it didn’t show up in photos. Actually, you might not even notice it in person, but it’s there. These are your standard issue “career girl” type dress pants that one would be expected to wear to work. That would explain why I very rarely wear them to work. That would also be why instead of a white button down and sensible pumps, I paired them with a graphic tee, leopard blazer, and ankle booties. Isn’t it funny how subjective style is? For most women, dressing up sweatpants and wearing them to work would be so far out of their comfort zone their heads would explode, but for me wearing actual dress pants to work gives me a nervous tic. Ah, but the subjectivity of it all is what makes it fun, right?

Arctic Leopard: Leopard Print Blazer And Brown Cords

No, I haven’t discovered a new species.  I’m wearing leopard and it feels like the Arctic outside.  Hence, the Arctic leopard. I haven’t worn my leopard blazer since there were still green leaves on the trees and my legs were bare, so I figured it was time to bust it out.  Although I would willingly trade the blazer for the green leaves and bare legs.  Look carefully…you might spot a baby bully photo bomb…
