Today is one of those days when I have a thousand stories to tell…
THE STORY
…but nothing to say. Does that make sense? I’m not one to do a week’s worth of blog posts ahead of time. I like my outfits to be something that I’ve worn within the last few days prior to the post. I do keep a few on the back burner for those weeks when for whatever reason (sickness, bad weather, etc) I don’t have any good looks to post, but 99% of the time it’s something I have very recently worn. And even if the shots are older, it’s always something that I actually wore.
The same goes for my stories. I write about whatever is currently bouncing around in my fun house of a brain. I sit down at the computer. I write. That about covers the steps in my writing process. I don’t plan ahead; I just go with whatever I’m currently mulling over. And just in case you’ve ever been curious, I write as if I’m actually having a face to face conversation with you (people who know me in real life have said they enjoy reading because it’s like they’re actually talking to me). Okay, maybe with a few less cuss words. Trust me, I’m actually quite eloquent in my usage of socially inappropriate language. That’s what happens when the girl from the trailer park gets a few college degrees; she becomes an articulate cusser.
If I have a thousand stories to tell then why do I have nothing to say? Sometimes I worry about oversharing or getting too personal. This is a fashion blog after all. Hence the reason I started subtitling the story and outfit sections. That way if you’re here just for the clothes then you know exactly where to go, but if you also enjoy my little narratives you know where to find them. The conundrum is, you’re walking a fine line when sharing your personal thoughts in a public forum. I’m not so much concerned with offending the world at large, but more the people I actually see and know in the real world. It’s surprising, at least for me, how many people in my life actually read my blog from time to time. And I mean surprising. Recently someone who I would not have in a million years thought even knew my blog existed, very adeptly slid a comment into the context of a conversation about something that had been on the blog. Talk about being taken aback. In any case, I do need to be selective about the stories I tell. See how my writing process works? I start off telling you I have nothing to say and three paragraphs later…
THE OUTFIT
This is an example of one of my favorite kinds of print mixing. It was done for me, no thought required with this mixed print tunic dress. I love the mix of the more delicate floral with the bolder mandala-like print on the bodice. I added leggings due to the fact it was about twenty degrees outside. I would have also layered a black turtleneck underneath, but this was pre-repaired heater at work so trust me, that would have been one layer too many. This outfit, like the print mix was basically no thought required. Dress, boots, a few necklaces…done.
THE TIP
Want to try print mixing, but feeling a little intimidated? Take baby steps and choose something like this dress that already has the mix done for you. That way there’s no stress over whether or not the prints work together.

Ha! I’m the opposite. No one I know reads my blog. I can, and often do, say whatever the heck I want without worrying too much about offending anyone cause I know they don’t read it.

So cute! I feel like we blog very similarly. Whatever pops into my head at a random time. I know so many other bloggers are so much more organized with their scheduled posts and all, but it definitely keeps us real when it’s our feelings at that EXACT moment in time. Thanks for participating in the Momfluence link up!
I love the mixed prints of this dress! It’s super cute and totally versatile for all seasons!

Isn’t it great when the pattern mixing is already done for you? And I love the contrast between the dark panel and the light pattern. I really like the easy style of this outfit. And the boots are great paired with the tunic dress.
