I have found that the older I get, the far less judgmental I am about a lot of things, but I’ve also found that there are a few things that I’ve become far less tolerant of…
THE STORY
…Weird, right? Over time I have realized that one cannot look at another’s relationships or life situations and think or say things like, “Oh, my God…how can she be stupid enough to stay in a marriage like that?” or “Why would he put up with someone treating him like that?” When I was much younger I would often think that I would never put up with this or put up with that…I would leave the relationship, quit the job, tell so and so to go to hell…you get the idea. It is easy to judge when the path is not yours.
But as I’ve gotten older, and perhaps because I have traveled more paths, I have realized that unless you are that person travelling that particular path, then you have no idea of the why’s or how’s of what they do. Nor is it anyone’s business but their own. Everyone has their own reasons for what they choose to do with their lives, and whether or not others find their reasons to be valid is irrelevant. You do what you gotta do.
On the other hand, I have become way less tolerant of blatant unkindness, blatant rudeness and blatant stupidity. In my opinion, there is simply no excuse for any of the above. I mentioned a few weeks ago that I have made it my mission in life to throw some kindness out into the world every time I leave the house. It doesn’t cost a thing to hold a door, say “thank you” or “you’re welcome”, to allow someone to turn left in cross traffic when you’re going straight. It also doesn’t cost a thing to say a kind word or toss out a compliment to a stranger. And it certainly can’t hurt in the current societal climate to put some good vibes out into the universe, now can it?
THE OUTFIT
It’s no secret that I love a good graphic tee. So when the theme for this month’s Ageless Style Link Up was “Graphic Tee’s” you all know how happy I was! It’s also no secret that I have been known to take scissors to my graphic tees, or any tee shirt really. So imagine my delight when I happened upon this tee that checked off all of the boxes…cool graphic, soft and floaty, and pre-cut…no scissors required.
The tee that originally lured me onto the website is equally fabulous, but it’s gray and has a different rose graphic. They were having a buy one get one 30% off deal on tops that day so I told my daughter to pick a top since it is back to school shopping time. With absolutely no suggestion or prompting from me, my mini chose the gray tee…and we now wear the same size…score! Although like a good mom, I promised that I wouldn’t borrow it until after she wore it first. Sadly, neither one is still available, but I’ve linked some cool alternatives below.
I wanted to stick with a subdued color palette, so I went with my gray boyfriend jeans and blush lace up flats. I think it all pulled together really well. I’m also thinking that this tee will look mighty fine with my pink tulle skirt too. I threw in the black grommet belt to add some toughness. Okay, I threw in the black belt because I don’t own a gray or pink belt. Honestly, my belt collection leaves something to be desired and I should probably work on that…
THE TIP
For whatever reason, a lot of women feel like once they reach a certain age (I don’t know exactly what “a certain age” means or is) they should no longer wear graphic tees because they are for younger women. Um, no. That’s just silliness. I have pretty graphic tees like this one, rock band tees, political statement tees, funny tees, slightly off color tees…you name it, I have it. And I wear them all. The key to wearing graphic tees, like anything, is to own it. Own it and rock it. Go out in the world and make a statement my friends. “A certain age” is nothing more than a myth.

You look absolutely gorgeous, Debbie! I LOVE that graphic tee - it’s exactly what I would’ve chosen too. I LOVE that neckline… gorgeous! I’m pretty useless when it comes to belts too. I really need someone’s guidance to go belt shopping lol!

Debbie, I swear we are soul mates in our thinking! Every post, you write what I am thinking! Another fabulous post, of course. And another fabulous outfit! My belt game is really bad, too. Although I did just invest in a quality black belt from Bed:Stu. I am tired of cheapie belts peeling all apart on me! Ugh. #SpreadTheKindness…it is my mission in life, too, and the legacy I want to leave behind!

Amen sister! So many times I read your posts and think “Hell ya!” We would have a blast together in real life; and we could go belt shopping too. 🙂
So feminine and edgy, perfect combination!
You are so right about throwing out a little kindness each day it really makes such a difference. If only everyone would get on board!
Happy Tuesday Deb!

Thanks Kellyann! And that’s the problem…too many people aren’t on board! That just means we have to work a little harder at it…
We always say you need to walk a mile in a person’s shoes before you judge (of course you shouldn’t judge, but you know what I mean!!)
I have this fondness for the choker shirts lately, so I need to get all 3 of us some ASAP. I don’t know what it is, but they just seem so cool! Maybe it’s you—because you’re so cool!! 🙂
XOXO

Aren’t choker tees awesome? I’m really loving them right now. You would think that in light of my childhood and life in general I would not be in the least judgmental and in many ways I’m not. But those very things about me make me even more judgmental in certain situations…
Wow Debbie, am in love with the colour of your hair right now!!! Great tee too. Plus the message at the beginning of this post is soooo true - I used to think like that too when I was younger but as you get older you grow wiser and realise exactly what you mention! Throwing kindness into the world is great - I always smile at others to make them feel good - it works 99% of the time 😉

Thanks Yvonne! The problem with the hair color is it fades super quickly which requires me to touch it up every couple of weeks. I love it so much though that I do it! 🙂
You are so right! And I love this tee!!!
Thank you my friend! xo

YES!! I love this post! i too am far less judgemental as I get older. I had the realization when I was getting divorced and had a small baby. Everyone says what they would do in your situation, but the truth is, you have no idea how you would handle anything until you are in that situation. Walk a mile in someone’s shoes. As for you look, love this relaxed look on you, and your hair is fabulous!

Hi Debbie, thanks for a lovely read, I totally agree with all you’ve said, I hoping we aren’t in the minority!
I’ve never had a graphic tee shirt, but spotted one similar today and very nearly bought it. I may have to go back to buy it and embrace this fashion - oh well 53 is a good age to start don’t you think? Great to link up with you. x Jacqui
