Personal style is a matter of taste...not age.

Faux Leather Pencil Skirt, Plaid Sweatshirt & Black Pumps: Stealth Professional

02.13.2015

At first glance you might be thinking, “Um, Debbie, what are you doing dressing all professional-like for work?” Never fear my friends, it’s not as it first appears. I called this outfit “stealth professional” on Instagram the other day because at first glance it appears that way, but upon closer inspection, maybe not. The pencil skirt is faux leather. And the plaid top is a sweatshirt. See, no need to worry. I haven’t been taken over by an alien being who is controlling my mind and forcing me to dress like a grown up with a job. Ain’t no mind control gonna make that happen. I like to have fun with my clothes and that includes my work wear. I never ever dress provocatively or in poor taste for work, but what most people consider professional is just too restrictive for me. Trust me, I can throw together a smokin’ professional look just as well as anyone (Exhibit A), but even then, I have to throw in something to make it unique and maybe a bit rebellious. If I don’t, it’s just not me. And that, in my opinion, is what personal style is all about. It tells the world a little something about who you are without speaking a word.

My lovely friend Alice at Happiness At Midlife posted a link to this outrageously cool faux leather pencil skirt from Ann Taylor on her Facebook page and the rest is history. I scored it for under $35 and I’ve gotta say, it’s pretty great. It looks and feels like the real deal, and it’s so comfortable. The skirt I originally ordered was too large and the return process was super easy and quick. I’m so happy I found it…thanks Alice! I haven’t given the plaid sweatshirt a spin for awhile so I decided it was time. I layered the red chiffon blouse underneath for the visual interest it provided and since I just wasn’t feeling boots that day I went with the black pumps. No, I wasn’t running around in all of this snow and ice in pumps…my trusty Bearpaws were waiting patiently in the car.

Black And White And Print All Over: Rose Print Joggers, Black Cardigan, Red Blouse And Striped Tank Top

04.30.2014

I’m lovin’ these pants. The print is kind of contradictory. It’s floral, but moody at the same time which in my book, makes ’em cool.  And they also complemented my tired moody personality today, which is a bonus. The black fishnet-like cardigan is perfect for this time of year. It’s an extra layer, but it’s not a polar vortex worthy layer. And I threw in a bit of print mixing for good measure. If you don’t live on the edge you can’t see the view…am I right? In keeping with the moody (and tired) theme, I’ll keep this short for today…I’m in serious need of sleep…

Baby, It’s Cold Outside…

12.12.2013

We already know that I’m not really snow’s biggest fan.  But the one thing that is worse is cold.  I mean bone chilling it hurts to breathe cold.  Today’s high is 18 degrees with lows in the single digits and wind chills below 0.  It would be the perfect day to stay home under a pile of blankets cuddled up with my dogs and my bully pup. But, that’s a no go.  I already was out two days this week for the flu from hell so out into the Arctic I must go.
Fortunately, this is yesterday’s outfit.  This pants are sweet, but they weren’t necessarily built for warmth. I noticed after taking these pictures, my necklace lost a stone somewhere. How sad is that? I’ll have to make a trip to the craft store to see if I can find something to replace it.  I rarely take close up shots of my necklaces, but of course when I do my necklace is jacked. At least you get the idea, it really is a super pretty necklace, missing stone and all.
I can assure you that whatever I wear today will involve multiple layers and most likely some type of wooly  boots. Hopefully I won’t look like the Michelin Man.  I guess you’ll have to wait until tomorrow to see…don’t judge.  A girl’s gotta keep warm.
