Frog Graphic Tee & Lace Skirt: Chaos NY Collaboration & Discount Code

I was approached a while back by a fabulously cool little boutique in New York called Chaos NY which I had first discovered on Instagram. They carry a cool eclectic mix of items from all over the world. Their mission is to provide colorful chic looks to women everywhere. One of the things that I love about them (aside from the one of a kind gorgeous items) is the fact that they support artists from all over the globe as well as women’s cooperatives in South Africa, India, and South America. They believe in women supporting women and I am all for that.

They offered me a choice of several items and believe me, it was hard to choose. But of course, being me, I went for a graphic tee. And not just any graphic tee…a frog graphic tee. I’ve mentioned before my love of poison dart frogs, and while this wasn’t a poison dart frog it was close enough to make me happy. I couldn’t have been more pleased when it arrived. It’s super soft and loose fitting. It will be perfect even when the temperatures warm up because it’s so lightweight.

I couldn’t wait any longer to wear it, so I had to winterize it by layering it over a chambray button down. And of course I had to pair it with items you wouldn’t expect; a lace skirt and blinged out necklace. I got tons of compliments on it at work. I mean seriously, who wouldn’t love a giant frog on a t-shirt? It will look super cute with my denim boyfriend shorts (ya, I know you all can’t wait for the return of the ever-present summer boyfriend shorts) and Converse once the temperatures reach a level that human beings are able to be outside in without losing body parts to frostbite.

Because I love and appreciate you all so much (and you know that I do), I have a discount code so generously offered by the fine ladies at Chaos NY. From now until March 23rd, enter code FAIRYDUST30 at checkout and receive 30% off. Yes, you read that right…30% off!! So, what are you waiting for? Head over there right now and pick up a unique, hand-crafted item for yourself!

Leopard Print Blazer, Plaid Blouse & Layered Necklaces: Hair Scare & A Nordstrom Giveaway

One would think that after teaching special education for almost 25 years I would learn to anticipate certain things. Like the effect of changes, for example. I know that my kids have a super hard time with change; move the furniture, they freak out; two hour delay schedule, they’re confused all day. But tweek my hair color? The whole damn world ends.

I suppose I should have seen that one coming. Although, to be fair, they’ve all been with me for quite awhile and they pretty much seem to roll with my fashion/beauty related quirkiness. I switch from summer to winter hair and vice versa every year. But for some reason the hair color change this time threw a couple of my little lovelies for a loop. You would’ve thought I shaved my head bald and tattooed my scalp. And moved all of the furniture. To another room. One of my kids took one look at me, bolted across the room to my friend/aide and while pointing at me and hopping up down kept saying, “Look at Mrs. Stinedurf! Look at her hair!” I had to pull my mirror out of my desk just to look and make sure my head wasn’t on fire.

So, my friends, how’s this for a super bold print mix? Truly, this particular mix isn’t for the faint of heart or the print mix virgin. I knew I wanted to mix plaid and leopard so I started with my leopard print blazer and built it from there. I considered a plaid flannel, but decided the sheer plaid blouse had more of the right feel; less bulky and more floaty. In keeping with the lighter feel, I went with the delicate layered necklaces as opposed to a statement necklace or scarf. I finished it off with my super cool red ankle booties since they tied in so well with the blouse.

Floral Slip Dress, Black Sweater & Ankle Booties: Summer Hair

So, yeah. I had this theory. If I colored my hair back to it’s summer shade, the weather would follow suit. I’m not crazy…I wasn’t expecting 75 degrees and sunshine. All I was asking for was something above 0 and maybe two or three feet less snow. You all can see how well that worked out for me. As a matter of fact this coming Friday’s overnight low is -15. No, not with wind chill. Straight up -15. WTH winter?? I just keep telling myself that one month from now this will all be over. A girl can dream, right?

Keeping with the “stuck in the Arctic, wishing it was the Bahamas” theme, I winterized my floral slip dress. Honestly, that’s not rocket science. I simply threw a black sweater over top, fleece lined leggings, socks and booties underneath and ta-da! A winterized summer dress. Oh, and I threw in the flower necklace for another dose of pretend summer.

Faux Leather Joggers, Fuzzy Sweater & Leopard Pumps: Thursday Fashion Files Link Up

Today I’m super excited to be the Guest Co-host for the first official Thursday Fashion Files Link Party along with the super sweet Carrie from Curly Crafty Mom and the always stylish Jill from Doused In Pink. Make sure you join in on the fun and link up with us!

I know many of you probably think I’m a complete lunatic for taking my shots outside in the snow. And let me tell you ahead of time, before you scroll down and see my kick ass leopard pumps, I did not tromp around in the snow in those suckers. A lunatic perhaps, but stupid I’m not. While outside I was sportin’ my ever-present Bearpaws and I put these back on before taking the snaps. In any case, I’m not as insane brave as you think I am. Before I head out, I get all of my camera settings taken care of, my tripod ready and my clothes adjusted. The spot where I take my pictures is only about fifteen feet outside my back door, so I bolt out there and get ‘er done in approximately two or three minutes. That’s it. Even I can handle the chill for two or three minutes. Unless, like I mentioned the other day, the temperature involves less than two digits or a minus sign then my friends, all bets are off. And I can tell you for certain, there will be no outside pictures tomorrow. The high is -1…you read that right…-1. Seriously, how can -1 even be called a “high”??

I do love my faux leather joggers, but they seem to have one rather inconvenient downfall I was unaware of. Apparently when it’s super dry inside due to having the heat fired up to fight off the Arctic air, they become a giant ball of static. Every time I moved they latched on to me like plastic wrap you’re trying to tear off the roll. Whenever I stood up I’d have to bend over and yank down the ankles to unglue them from legs. My husband suggested I put a blow dryer down my pants and inflate them a little bit…he’s always so helpful like that. The black fuzzy sweater had a similar issue. It attracted every teeny tiny bit of pink fuzz off of my scarf so it kind of looks like a black and pink tweed sweater…ya, let’s go with that. #winterstyleproblems
